  • Comments Thread For: Benn on Not Getting 'Hard Fights': 'We're Not Conning The Public'

Don't expect to see Conor Benn against the top talents of the welterweight division anytime soon. The hard-hitting British welterweight and son of famed boxer Nigel Benn recently offered an in-depth explanation why intriguing fights that people have been on his case about - for example, against Vergil Ortiz, Jaron Ennis, and Errol Spence Jr. - won't happen until Benn feels that he has hit his absolute prime.

But Ortiz and Ennis are both nowhere near their peak too, so they'd both be great fights to make now.

Hiding in protective custody. He is afraid he may lose his ****** 0 if he is put in with the general population.

They won’t even let him fight McKinson or Avenesyan which are natural stepping stones to the real competition.

I still think he is the most improved boxer I have ever seen. He looked like an accident waiting to happen earlier in his career but now he looks like he has a punchers chance in any fight

Agreed about Benn fighting Avenesyan, that'd be a genuine step towards the elite of the division. Hearn won't let Benn near McKinson either, too high a risk for no reward.

It'll be interesting to see how McKinson does against Oritz. Massive step up for him.

I want to see the young guns Ortiz, Stanonis, Benn, Ennis, Rashidi Ellis all going at it. When you have this many unbeaten contenders, they should be fighting each other instead of lessor fighters. Put these guys in a PPV for $50 and I'll pay for it. The 5th wheel, maybe Ellis can wait if someone gets covid and can step in. Or he can fight Custio Clayton or Avenesyan on the card.

Benn is telling fans to shut up and pay to watch him in fights everyone knows he can win. There’s no Canelo in the boy, but there’s plenty of wanting his lucrative safe space.

              This suits the platform, too,

DAZN, which is openly flirting with PPVs, would like to become a glorified sparring network. When a name fighter has 30 or 40 padded wins on the subscription side, the platform will then sell you his actual competitive fights — for extra.

There is no rush with Benn, it makes no sense to throw him at the deep end right now, he didn’t have much of an amateur career either, he hasn’t been doing this as long as others. There was so much hype with Josh Kelly and he had more experience overall to / was an Olympian, the Avanesyan fight came too early even for him and we saw what happened.

Guys like Broner, Maurice Hooker etc are much better opponents for Benn at this point as he works his way into the world level and also develop further.

This is all on Hearn. He is trying to protect a guy who doesn't want to be protected.

Eddie Hearn is building a star trying to emulate Arum. But it's looking silly. He's protecting his guy from guys who themselves are on Benn's level.

Delusional idiot. You’ve never won any legitimate title and you’re claiming to be “world level”.

Ekow Essuman would beat Benn, that’s how far he is away from “world level”.
