look how many old men there are in Light Heavyweight division. if fighters are really 'evolving' so quickly, then these past prime old generation guys should have gotten kicked out a while ago.
Look I have proven using your analogical thinking that Joe Calzaghe is the best of all time.

    Joe Calzaghe BEAT Bernard Hopkins
Bernard Hopkins BEAT Oscard De La Hoya
Oscar De La Hoya BEAT Hector Camacho
    Hector Camacho BEAT Roberto Duran

Therefore Joe Calzaghe > Roberto Duran

that beer drinker was still able to KO Wlad and give Vitali a hard fight. so Im not entirely sure what youre getting at...

and why is it that guys like Archie Moore and Larry Holmes stuck around for so long, they didnt have modern medicine.

No, instead he played golf all day. He was about as undedicated a fighter as I've ever seen. Had all the talent in the world and let it go to waste.

Archie Moore stayed even longer than Hopkins. Holyfield has been shot for a decade, it's just the lack of talent today that allows him to compete still.

Bernard Hopkins was 45(?) years old. if anything, he is a testament to the fact that fighters are NOT drastically evolving.

your analysis is silly anyways, and you know it. Joe Calzaghe is a super middleweight, and Duran is a lightweight. Calzaghe would be a light heavyweight by the weigh in process that Duran had to go through.
              how is that even relevant?

Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Foster, Duran, Joe Louis, Archie Moore, and their ilk came from a society that started smoking at age 12 and wouldn't know a nutritional supplement from a caffiene pill. They didn't have a team of corporate personal trainers, they had Mickey and a bucket boy. We're talking about 50 situps, 15 minutes of jump rope, and a couple of shots of whiskey to get the blood boiling before a fight. This was an era where "women were bad for legs," ok?? It's not even the same sport.

So get over it old timers. We all love your old warriors. They had heart and "grit". They were common folk taken to arms, salt of the earth, people of the land....You know?....morons. And, I mean that in the sense that they had absolutely no knowledge of muscle twitch, heart quiver, electrolytes, and all the substances and technicalities that go into a full damn six pack of ABS (you don't see pictures of one damn fighter in the 60s or before with a six pack).

When the premier articulate spokesman of our boxing age and era, the poet laureat of boxing himself, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., says he was greater than Ali, it's the truth. Consider THAT for one moment.

There is no way that old timers could compete with the greats of the modern age. We can go to Mars. You felt good to be able to cross the county line without spending the night at a motel.

So, we have to consider the greats of the modern age as the absolute greatest of all times. Clearly, one of the greats of OUR age is the GOAT. Sugar Ray Robinson is long gone............now overrated and consigned to history as possibly the greatest of a bygone age, but definitely of a bygone age. An age where the age 30 was a death sentence.

That brings us to Calzaghe, Lennox, Klitschko, and Floyd. Make your choice for GOAT and WELCOME TO THE MODERN AGE.
this guy speaks the truth ^_^

we have so many clueless boxing fans in here, who jump on the espn classic bandwagon to look cool and old school. " oh what floyd the goat! non sense! " then they start mentioning all of these boxers no one knows about, boxers they googled to sound like they're from the underground etc etc. LOL. no one can respect boxers who're still alive or who're dominating in our time.

it'll be sad to see how future generations (when floyd is retired and old), will regard floyd as the best fighter ever and how they'll praise calzaghe - but we can't. glad to see we have some people left with sense, who know how to appreciate legends when they see one.

                    FACT IS, FLOYD - UNDEFEATED.

                    CALZAGHE UNDEFEATED.

BEST TWO FIGHTERS OF ALL TIME. GO BUY SOME TICKETS, FIND THEM, TAKE PICTURES WITH THEM.. BEFORE YOU REGRET IT. ALSO, BUY THE PPVS SO YOU CAN TELL YOUR GRANDKIDS YOU WITNESSED THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME LIVE AND THAT YOU WERE YOUNG WHEN THEY WERE FIGHTING.
