However, I love the slight head turn pre-full contact from Golovkin. Stops him getting knocked down in my opinion.
I see someone like AJ, and he takes these kinds of shots flush because he doesn’t move the head too much.
W/Fury, the only time he’s been sparked is when his feet got caught and his head was stationary. Every other time Wilder knocked him down, I recall (perhaps falsely) his head was on the move, and prob absorbed some impact
A slightly, more painful variation is to block the incoming shot with the forehead which GGG also does a lot as the forehead is the thickest part of the skull and is capable of absorbing more trauma than other parts. Fury used this technique against Wilder in the trilogy and still went down which is testament to the insane power in Wilder's right hand. Saying that though Wilder also has a habit of rabbit punching in fights and he hit Fury behind the back of the head which caused the second knockdown.P to the J likes this.

When Canelo fought Jacobs he absorbed a huge right hand which quite frankly would've knocked most fighters into next week but he took all the power off it with a simple glance of the cheek. Joe Joyce used the same technique against Takam recently after Takam hit him with some meaty shots.

Great analysis.
Now you mention Canelo, and blocking shots w/the forehead, this is exactly how he caught up with BJS in the end.
I'm all for fighters dipping their head in the right circumstances, but BJS and Fury (in that fight you mention) begun to do it excessively for my liking. After a while, it looked less like boxing instinct and more like force of habit. Not taking anything way from those two, mind.Elastic Recoilz likes this.

If you suck it will happen. If you're an easy cherry pick for a belt it will happen. If you get knocked out you'll probably fight him next.

Canelo never had any intention in moving up to Cruiser, it was just posturing by Reynoso to get the rest of the bunch to fall in line and not have long drawn out negotiations like Canelo's last opponents, it was reported by the Mexican media when this broke a few months back, it was just smoke on the water and apparently it's working....

I honestly think with Fury he just wanted to do a demolition job on Wilder after all the ****e he talked and was just plodding forward using crude defensive skills at times . As Wilder usually telegraphs the hell out of his right hand when he's about to through it Fury knows when to dip or slip accordingly but in the trilogy its like he had a real urgency to get him out of there and he kind of neglected the defensive side to his game in favour of a front foot brawling style which led to him getting hit clean a good few times and walking onto the right hand which floored him.
All credit to Fury though - he can fight at a high level utilising an array of styles. There's many fighters out there who can just about run with one for example AJ who seems to be lost between conventional European style and some sort of jab hand down, backfoot moving fighter. You could see against Pulev at times he looked offensively confused and there were spots where he was absolutely battering the fuq out of him followed by spots where he was trying to box but ultimately letting him off the hook.P to the J likes this.

You could see from about round 3 onwards Canelo was setting him up for the uppercut, just fine tuning the timing, and hey presto - round 8 arrives, BJS misses a right hook, falls short, goes to dip and CRACK broken orbital!

Yeah, I think you’ve got it there on all counts.
I’m of the opinion Fury wouldn’t have gotten caught at all if he’d have had a full camp, but that’s just me. He got it done
