How long have you watched boxing? Joe was just playing around. He knew this guy was a stiff that couldn't faze him.

Still don't like it. If the guy is a stiff take him out and go home early.

This was the expected outcome in the Smith versus Geffrard mismatch.
Just an awful fight, the less said about it the better.
Joe's just really basic to the point of being very boring.

Yes, because Smith lost out on those fights against Salamov and Danny Jacobs that he wants to make up for it in one go against Beterbiev.

This damned new format of boxingscene it just rubbish. And what's the idea of describing a fight from the last round back to the first. Sheer ******ity. You had a very good system gojng ans had to ruin it. I've been on boxingscene since shortly after it began in 2003, I joined in 2004 and this format is the worst I've seen..

I see other bad systems and it looks as if you're trying to compete with them, well you don't need to you're #1...in bad formats.

Doesn't anyone "get it" in here ? Joe was playing around with this stiff. Basically getting some work in. In the real world , this was just like a non-title " fight for the champ. Like they used to do in the old days. He was getting some work in, having fun. Basically a sparring match with no headgear. Don't look too deep into this fight. It was a nothing fight for him.

I don’t think he was necessarily playing with him, but Smith was looking for the right moment to unload. This Geffrard guy was just trying to survive by the last few rounds and wasn’t really fighting back. It’s hard to pull off a KO when your opponent goes into a shell and is just trying to survive.

I for one don’t think boxers should ever “play” with their opponents because then that’s when it backfires on you. It looked like Geffrard had some decent skills too.

End of the day though, Smith got it done and I can’t knock him for that. He did what he was expected to do.

Describing a fight backwards is like reading a book backwards or watching the end of the movie first. Are you guys smoking something, taking some drugs that make you see things backwards ???? Stop doing describing a fight this way, is that how you also talk. BACKWARDS !!!!!!!!

no doubt, Beterbiev is very tough and has a granite chin. I would have Artur as a 4-1 favoritie against Smith. Artur does get hit so Joe has a chance. Alot of folks forget that Joe had Bivol out on his feet briefly before the bell saved Bivol

It's shocking and disappointing that Steve Geffrard, at this late point in his career, completely blew any chance, not just at a title shot, but at another TV gig. HIs monochromatic strategy of "cover up and take punches" was, initially, reminiscent of Ali's "rope a dope", save there was no counterattack in later rounds. It's been a very long time since I've seen any pugilist just cover up and become a tomatoe can. It was almost shameful. If Geffrard was too afraid to give Smith any sort of meaningful run for the money he should never have taken the fight. While this was Smith's first title defense, it's really hard to call it that: the bout was only a smidgen more difficult than an animated sparring session. It was so bad that a casual fan remarked that it looked as if Geffrard was on Smith's payroll. I don't know what was going through Geffrard's mind: when you are a contestant in a boxing match you are expected to go out there and BOX. Regardless of his previous opponents, Steve's record alone shows that he is capable of giving us a much better showing than he did last night (which was really NO showing). At this point we do not know how good Smith, Jr really is, as he was not challenged in any way. And we don't know any longer what Geffrrard is really capable of; save for virtually throwing a fight. At the end of the fight the status quo was unchanged: Smith, Jr retained his title, as expected; and Geffrard looked like a cowardly amateur, which was totally unexpected, as we know he is capable of far more. The fans, in the end, were the ones who were cheated, and I imagine that BOTH fighters awoke this morning thoroughly embarrassed by their performance last night. No one really won or lost, and we were ALL robbed by Bob Arum.
