Remember how feared Gwozdyk was after his win over Adonis. Beter crushed him bad.

Smith is a level below both Bivol and Beterbiev. He's right about one thing though; Bivol could finish opponents but chooses not to. If he wanted to he could have stopped Smith.
As for Beterbiev it is a misconception he can't box well. He demolished a prime Gvodyk who's a world class boxer. If that man couldnt get close to outboxing him there's not a chance in hell Bivol does it 'easily'. It would be an extremely hard fight for both, I would give the edge to Beterbiev right now (I flip flop between the two) because Beterbiev can hurt Bivol unlike anyone the younger fighter has faced and he's got this unique killer Chechen mentality as demonstrated in his last blood-soaked fight.

Stylistically, it's a good matchup between Beterbiev and Smith, Jr. The problem is that Beterbiev is better at what they both do, which is come inside and punish the other guy. I can see Smith, Jr. hurting Beterbiev, but I don't see him stopping him. Every time Smith, Jr. is able to hit Beterbiev, it means that Beterbiev is there to hit Smith, but everyone one of Beterbiev's punches causes massive damage while Smith has to land a good punch. For everyone of Smith, Jr.'s punches, Beterbiev has landed 10 of those. That's why I see this as having 10 to 1 odds favoring Beterbiev.
That being said, Bivol is a stylistic nightmare for Beterbiev. It really is, so I'd have to favor Bivol. Bivol already knows the game plan: Stay on the outside and box Beterbiev all night. From his own mouth he's said, "If you try to fight Beterbiev on the inside, you have little to no chance of winning."

He fought as a HW as an amateur and is usually the shorter man as a pro too. So his entire style is centred around pusing you back, keeping you on the backfoot and trapping you. It's something he has mastered since he started boxing seriously.
Bivol would be one of the smallest guys he has fought and he also lacks the firepower to keep Beterbiev off. Adam Dienes and Gvozdyk could not deter him or put him down, and let's not forget that Gvozdyk was a mighty puncher who caught Beterbiev clean many times.
Also, remember, Gvozdyk was outboxing Beterbiev too until the proverbial wall started closing in on him and ultimately crushed him.
I see it going much the same way, Bivol has the cleaner work but Beterbiev just slowly gets a crushing body blow in there several times a round and slows down Bivol until Bivol capitulates down the stretch and then Beterbiev smells blood and goes for the kill.
Bivol's skills are A+ (if repetitive and lacking variety) but he would get overpowered eventually.Last edited by CasperUK; 01-15-2022, 02:55 PM.
