To be honest Spence isn't much of a ppv draw .his best numbers were with Garcia thanks to the Chicano fans . he may have more pull than Crawford but he ain't no ppv star .
Simply put, the PBC is giving Spence more cover for a blatant duck that has been going on for years. Crawford may need to just retire and be with his family or possibly move up and take on Charlo.
Pay Per View just isn't a viable way to make big money anymore. Especially when it's almost $100 for one big fight and a few duds on the undercard. Then the marquee fight might suck like Pacquiao vs Mayweather or could end early on a cut , headbutt , etc. Besides , only boxing fans know who these guys are . Spence and Crawford aren't celebrities like Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns , or even Oscar DeLaHoya and Felix Trinidad. That's on the promoters though , it's their job to promote fighters and fights and they don't do it. First , teach these guys how to speak. Public speaking doesn't come natural to most people. Then get them on network t.v. , doing interviews , talk shows , etc. There are a bunch of people who are famous just for being famous , follow their examples.
LOL at the ******ity of it all.
They can find money for Canelo's guarantee of $50 million
along with another $10 million for Plant, who is a nobody.
Yet they can't find $20 mil for Spence/Crawford.
And you're fooling yourselves if you believe Alvarez/Plant
is bigger than the most constantly talked about fight for years.
Darn it, now Crawford will sue PBC and Haymon for discriminating against black boxers.
I've stuck up for Arum for years but I can't anymore. The man is ruthless and he blatantly screwed Crawford. In a nut shell, Arum couldn't deliver the fights he promised and Terrance refused to lower his contractual minimum. As a parting gift, Arum knowingly sabotaged PPV numbers and with that he may have ended Crawford's potential to reach all time status. I don't believe Terrance can with the case but I certainly understand why he is upset.
For the sake of the argument that "Haymon only let's his fighters, fight in-house," it does count. Colbert vs. Gutierrez will be a PBC card, but Gutierrez is a GBP fighter.
Wasn't that a mandatory? Fight or go to purse bid or no fight no belt?
This is clearly a propaganda piece. They might as well have dropped this article from a military bomber on printed leaflets all over the countryside. I remember when Tim Smith was the boxing writer for the New York Daily News. He was one of the only writers that ever wrote what I felt were fair articles about Floyd Mayweather and Al Haymon. Things were different back then and there seemed to be a need for at least one boxing journalist that wasn’t part of the witch hunt. But fast forward to now and we see how the meek become the mighty and end up committing the same kind of acts that were once done against them. And maybe Tim Smith was in the employ of Al Haymon the entire time.
Excuses excuses and more excuses. They don’t want to insult the guy is code for saying “we will never send an offer because Errol Spence is not interested in making the fight”. Lets not forget that these two have never actually been in negotiations and no one actually knows how much money they want.
He’s not a big enough Pay Per View Star is code for saying we would rather fight an easier opponent with a lesser well known name.
The whole saga is all about Spence trying to gain more leverage so he can not only make more money but also because he is one of those fighters that feels that he needs a psychological edge in a fight. Thats the reason why he has run his mouth so much about money splits. And its the reason why he has so many negative things to say about Crawford’s status.
This article is about CBS pushing its agenda as boxingscene has been posting more and more slanted articles like this one ever since it was acquired. I mean putting the notion out there that no one will buy the fight because they will steal it is completely unprovable yet at the same time it can’t be disproven because it’s completely imaginary. Does that only apply to this fight? Or does it only apply to Terence Crawford? Will the same fans that paid for Spence vs Garcia pirate Crawford vs Spence just out of spite for Crawford? Come on Tim Smith. I’m sure Al Haymon is paying you better money than that cheap supposition is worth.
Ain't that the truth. I don't care how big a fan you are of Crawford. We can both agree that he has tremendous ability in the ring and there is no denying that. Putting that aside, he is not a true boxing star. He simply doesn't really have the "it" factor. His personality is dry and boring as f**k. He creates just about zero excitement prior to his fights in the build up. That is nobody's fault including as he would put it, his promoter. They tried their best with what they had to work with here but unless they threw a Mike Tyson mask on Crawford during his press-cons, I'm not sure how else they could get people's attention for his fights. He simply doesn't have it.
