Let's make our own sanctioning body...

I wonder how hard it would be to create another sanctioning body? I remember when the WBO was created, I didn't think there was room for a 4th major belt. 34 years later and the WBO has become an equal, more or less, to the IBF, WBC and WBA.

How hard would it really be to create a 5th? Sure we can convince fighters to want our newly established belt. We can call it the NSB Belt. Despite it's well established history, the WBA is a farce and it wouldn't take much to overtake it in legitimacy.

We could go the route of the IBF when it was first created and just award our belt to current champions or we could do what the WBO did and crown our own (like when Damiani defeated DuPlooy for their HW championship while Tyson held the rest of the belts).

However, before any of that, the most important decision is to figure out what color it should be...

It would be very hard to successfully launch another sanctioning body. Pretty much impossible unless at least one major promoter, preferably two, had a huge falling out with the existing bodies, and I just don't see that happening.

For many years you just had the WBC and the WBA. The WBC under the control of Don King and the WBA under the control of Bob Arum. King started paying larger bribes than Arum to the WBA and Arum's grasp began to slip. So Arum went public about all the bribes he had been paying to the WBA for years and tried to throw them under the bus. He named names (all bribes were paid to Pepe Cordero) and Arum threw his weight behind the IBF to try to put it on the map.

Years later, when King started paying larger bribes than Arum to the IBF, Arum helped the FBI set up the FBI to try to take down the IBF and Arum put his weight behind the IBA as a potential IBF replacement. The WBO was much bigger than the IBA, but since the WBO had been founded by Pepe Cordero after Arum ran his mouth and got Pepe blackballed by the WBA, Arum had a horrrible relationship with the WBO and thought he could prop up the IBA. It didn't work.

Once Paco took over the WBO, Arum went full force with the WBO, eventually helping them gain recognition after decades. So not only is Arum responsible for there being 3 world titles, he's also responsible for there being 4 world titles.

I was fairly young when the IBF kicked up but growing up in the shadows of the Atlantic City casinos, I do vaguely remember the circumstances of their inception and the WBO

While maybe not as easy as I joked about, I do think it's possible provided a group of people had a plan and the resources in place to establish a big enough initial footprint. Greed and corruption are constants in this sport and can always be counted on if you know how to leverage them.

Most importantly though, you never told us what color the belt should be...

I'm in. How long do we need to wait before we can launch our Boxing Scene Franchise belt to go alongside our Gold, Silver and Diamond World titles? And... ummm... most importantly what's our fee stucture gonna be?

Haha! I dunno, I think we have a nice blend of surly, shady, delusional and dishonest to blend in with the other organizations.

Exactly! We need to think big. Why settle for just gold, silver and diamond? We can have ruby, sapphire, emerald, opal, and cubic zirconia belts at our disposal in order to recognize "greatness" (or even just mediocrity).
