The thing that gets me is that I don't recall Ortiz mentioning any injury or pain in his hand post-fight. Maybe it was adrenaline that masked any discomfort but I find it more likely the hand injury is a convenience to avoid fighting Hrgovic for what would likely be a smallish purse.
If the injury is just convenience, he's the not first fighter to opt for discretion (Whyte and his recently bum shoulder come to mind) but I hate when these guys talk about being avoided while they do it themselves in the same breath. It smacks of hippocricy...Comment

If he fought Hrgovic, he'd make a fraction of what he made against Martin and would almost certainly lose.
Not the kinda fight he's going to take, as it's clear he is SHOT. He's going to sit on the sidelines and wait for the right opportunity to cash out.Comment

I’m simply not surprised by the Ortiz camp. They should just make Hrgovic the mando. The money would be absolutely crap for Ortiz/Hrgovic. It would be lower than Hunter/Hrgovic fight. I just can’t see anyone fighting Hrgovic. I just want to see Hrgovic against someone better than Eric Molina & Kevin Johnson. Sauerland just has to open up the wallet a liitle more. Hearn/Sauerland ain’t doing Hrgovic any favours. I have read several tomes the Croatian medis blames kalle sauerland for Hrgovic’s career stalling. They accuse him of being too cheap & not willing to pay for decent opponents. They might even have to overpay to get someone in the ring

It wouldn’t matter if they did that ,he’d still have to fight . He’s not going to wait until 2023 to fight again when the title fight will be available. He’s also going to want a contractual agreement knowing he’s secured a title shot anyway .Last edited by REDEEMER; 01-05-2022, 10:38 AM.Comment

It's when they lose that they list every injury... and he wouldn't have known how bad it was hurt at that time. "Basically, Luis had a minimal fracture that he should being able to heal without issues, but with something like that he does not want to take any risk,". I don't see boxingscene intentionally leaving out anything relevant here. Everything is some big conspiracy to people these days.Comment

They were way to obvious trying to setup Ortiz lol. We never see them move that fast but, 42 year old fighter gets knocked down twice, has an obvious leg injury and we get this less than week after the fight. Even from a medical perpective the deadline to accept makes no sense unless you're trying to setup Ortiz. At least they didn't fall for the IBF's bs. They make up rules as they go and this eliminator does not guarantee anything Okendo etc.. how many have fought in eliminators and are waiting for fights lol?Comment
