- or face a load of boring mandatories - nobody is calling for Josh Taylor vs Catteral - but it's his mandatory. All you guys are sleeping on Makabu - he isn't great, never will be - but he's a solid cruiserweight. As such its a challenge. More of a challenge than Billie Joe Saunders or faded Kovalev - but yeah, Beterbiev is a bigger challenge and he is just one weight class above not 2. So Makabu is a legacy thing - 5 weight world champ. That's ok too. Imagine a boxing universe where everyone just stayed in their division to unify and defend belts - boxing would be dog-shit boring. In the last ten years the biggest shock for me was seeing Khan step up to challenge Canelo. The audacity and balls of the guy (and ******ity). After that was seeing Brook step up to fight Golovkin at a time when nobody else would even mention his name apart from Ward.

Bud had the best year in 2021 by being the first to knock out Shawn Porter, a far superior fighter to anyone Canelo beat this year. Maybe Usyk too wth his win over AJ.Comment

If he defeats AJ again and beats Fury he is already fighter of the decade and ATG. But Smith and Plant were solid undefeated champs. yet, the fact they are referred to as no-hopers speaks to Canelo's standing in the critics (and bookies) opinions.Comment

Smith should not have been undefeated, he lost to a bum John RyderComment

Where would you put Jose Ramirez? For me he is more or less on the same level as Porter. Different styles but about same level as each other. Before he lost to Taylor all the talk was about him moving up to 147 and being a solid contender. I don't think most people are calling Joshua 'great' anymore. Those 2 defeats have tarnished his reputation a lot. If he somehow comes backs and beats Usyk though the switch is gonna flip again.Comment

Bud is just on a different level and people hate on his opponents, but when you really look at the facts the truth is that bud has a good resume. I can break it down with each of his opponents.
Porter has proven himself time and time again by stepping in the ring with pound for pound fighters giving them all they can handle.Comment

I suspect that near enough every single negative comment in this thread toward Canelo and the year he has just had will come from an American. I'm sure he will get plenty of credit from Americans but the seriously vast majority of salt will come from Americans.
Nobody is going to refuse to give foreigners credit as much as Americans.Last edited by DaNeutral.; 01-02-2022, 04:11 PM.Comment
