Lenier Pero prevailed in the first televised fight of 2022. The 2016 Cuban Olympic quarterfinalist outlasted countryman Geovany Bruzon to win an eight-round, unanimous decision win in an entertaining heavyweight scrap. Judges John Rupert (78-74), Toby Tamarkin (77-75) and Peter Zamoyski (78-74) all scored in favor of Pero in a rare meeting between unbeaten Cuban heavyweights Saturday evening at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Great fight missed the first 5 rounds .

Bruzon was tough & showed a great chin. He was active & took some big shots. The level of skill was apparent but Pero was not in great shape. Hopefully can correct that. I always like to see good even matchups early. Pero had the superior amateur career so I figured Pero would easily beat him. Thought Bruzon was just brought in as an opponent but he won 2 rounds & staggered him. I hope to see both again but Pero needs to drops 20… I can’t help but think of Jorge Luis Gonzalez & Odlanier Solis when I watch Pero…
