After Makabu, will Canelo go for easier pickings in Joe Smith?

Considering Canelo's possible future trajectory via what he and his team has expressed, after Makabu (should Makabu get passed his opponent I'm January) do you think Canelo will go back down to 175 and fight the easier champ in Joe Smith (should Joe get passed Johnson)???

Hoping Canelo doesn't take the RJJ route! When he moves up to 190 lbs...he needs to find a rather easy opponent to face later that year....nobody should asking him to come down 15 lbs (to 175) or 22 lbs (to 168) in the same year.

I'd hope to see Canelo vs anybody at 168 or 175 by Spring of '23.

Honestly Joe Smith would be a much better win than any of these bums he fought at 168. Or Makabu. At least Smith shows up to win and has power.

It’s a possibility due to Smith being the WBO champion at 175.

Canelo is pretty fcked though. He appears to be the only fighter who can’t take a couple of trips.

Most fighters are allowed to work their way up, but his critics find him very special and unbeatable, so he must face the best guy there.

Yeah, no one should be asking him to move back down but his team has expressed exactly that. I highly doubt he will go back down to 168,matter of fact I think he will vacate all those belts and the top 168 fighters will fight for them. I think it's more probable Canelo will go back down to 175 after cruiserweight.

            I feel you man,
Joe does come to fight all the way.
But I think Joe is the weakest out of the light heavyweight champs

              Good point,
But then again,l Canelo at the point he is in in his career, seems like he can fight anyone with no repercussions.

Yep, I'm hoping he goes back down to 175 and calls it a career. Benavidez is a two-time loser of that WBC title and his spot in the division...one more offense and he'll surely be written off. But what if Canelo doesn't come back down to 168, what will David be left with? He can with be a weight-bully of a champion at '68 or move up to 75 and fight Canelo within 2-3 fights.

Whatever weight Canelo is at, it's probably best that he's comfortable at said weight. I mean, these guys need him...not the other way around. Whatever weight works for him, he should go for it. Whatever the other guys have to do to get to him, they should get started immediately.

I honestly believe Canelo retires within the next two years if big things aren't on the horizon for him. If these challengers create an atmosphere for him to remain active, then he'll stick around. You see what he's doing now...moving up to Cruiserweight and all. He did the same at 160....he moved up to 168 for a title back in Dec. 2018, dropped back down to 160 to unify against Jacobs and right back up to 175 by the end of 2019 to win a title. All of that in 1 year. What have the other guys at '68 done besides avoid challenges and beg for a fight?

We're asking a lot of Canelo but not much of the guys who wanna share the ring with him so badly...it's been the story of his career for a while now.

                  Good points man.
But Canelo has said he is going to keep Boxing for about another 5-7 years man.
Canelo loves Boxing period. I think he will keep Boxing for more than 2 years, I respect it. I think he is now levels above most of these guys, including Beterbiev and even Bivol honestly.
And you right, most these guys aren't doing much to actually deserve a Canelo fight, they just too busy running their mouths off fighting twice a year maximum.

Smith has heart, a killer instinct and most important knows how to deal with adversity, that's something most guys don't have today.

Agree, he's definitely not on Bivol or Beterbiev's level, I think Joe Smith is a tougher win than say BJS or Callum Smith.
