Oh boy do I love an upset especially when it’s a matchroom fighter, case in point Terri Harper, Galahad just to mention a couple, most of the time Eddie Hearn and his crew dismiss the away fighters chances

For a showcase, the Kambosos upset of Lopez was the best of the year.

Usyk beating Joshua wasn't really a big upset, just more impressive that he did it in England, and Usyk is pound for pound one of the best.

The most exciting fight of the year, hands down Fury-Wilder 3, not the best sweet science, just a brawl.

Best fighter of the year, don't know, I suppose Canelo gets the most mentions because he beat Saunders and Plant. Tyson Fury, but he just had the one fight.

Best up and coming prospect that looks like a world champion? Jaron Ennis.

Crawford was good but didn't have any super fight, although a good win over Porter.

Unless a fighter simply has no competition that is close, a major upset in a major fight speaks to the fact that fighters often are not facing the best. This is the worst part of boxing at this point in history.

Good article by Erdman. I think we can agree that if we had more even matchmaking, we'd need less of these upsets to keep our interest.

Great topic for an article. Agree with all of the points especially that more low profile fights are getting odds. Another factor: Fighters fight more infrequently so sportsbooks and fans get less of a look at the fighter so more misreads happen.

It’s pretty stunning. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a +800 in the UFC. MMA more unpredictable than boxing but still…
