Smart guy and that’s why he didn’t sign with Hearn/Matchroom.
I see Whittaker doing the same thing. Ditto most amateurs coming through the TeamGB ranks.
Hearn is a greedy muppet and Matchroom has the worst matchmakers in boxing. They ruin prospects at Matchroom. So he basically dodged a bullet and he’d be better for it eventually.
If his sponsors can afford to wait quite a long time for a return it’s a massive gamble as by that time he will be 33 or 34 before any meaningful fight takes place and the money isn’t there anymore either , seen it all before ,

Ok, so given that you clearly have an issue with Hearn. Who would you suggest he be promoted by? Obviously he's signed with BOXXER, but they have no proven track record and this move is a gamble. So who else would you have liked to see him promoted by? Because I'm guessing beforehand you weren't thinking he should go to BOXXER. So who were you hoping he'd sign with?

Boxers don’t need loudmouthed Teflon promoters who are always in front of cameras like Puff Daddy in shiny suits to be a huge draw. It’s about the product, style of boxing, how they’re matched, media hype and being exposed to a big audience.
The misconception about promoters making boxers a big draw started with AJ and Hearn and Hearn using AJ to attain superstar status as a promoter. AJ with or without Hearn would’ve been who he’s (even bigger). He’s the most popular prospect in British Boxing history and he capped it up with a gold medal at an Olympics hosted in GB with a sold out crowd. And with his ferocious/aggressive style - he was destined to be who he’s.
Boxers make promoters - promoters don’t make boxers. All the biggest draws in boxing history made their promoters.
That said, it’s not about how experienced those running BOXXER are - it’s about the massive SKY platform they have at their disposal (Hearn was also inexperienced when he hit the jackpot with AJ and he’s still very inexperienced due to all his gaffes). And as a young boxer trying to build a fan base - you need that exposure. That’s how you build to become a PPV star. And if you’re a KO artist - it’s only a matter of time before you build a solid loyal fan base across the country who would pay to watch you because they know what they’re getting.
Also, Matchroom have the worst matchmakers in boxing and they have consistently ruined young prospects. So before he signed with BOXXER - I was expecting him to sign Frank Warren. But I don’t think Fish Eyes can afford him and since he’s with 258 and due to AJ’s relationship with Skysports - he made the right decision. I expect Whittaker to do the same thing.
BOXXER promotion is extremely thin at heavyweight. Frazer has a few years to grow but he’s also an Olympic champion you really have to come out of the gates with stuff like that and around 30 but will he get the right fights and waste his time there ? I hope not it’s really a platform for up and comers it looks like so it’s nether yay or nay until a few years pass to see who they can get and how their model helps fighters get known without much talking about them which seems counterproductive with a guy who doesn’t talk much Clarke .
Perhaps Boxxer can build a working relationship with Queensbury/Top Rank and PBC? Matchroom had a working relationship with PBC from the early days of time buys on network tv to fights like Spence v Brook that appeared on Showtime….even Joshua was a showtime fighter. Sky doesn’t seem to be in the “I’m putting everyone else out of business” mentality so I don’t see why relationships cannot be built. The fact that Haymon actually worked with young Edward to get matchroom fighters in PBC cards shows this to be possible
