Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Says Canelo Alvarez Should Resume Career At 175

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez conquered the 168-pound division in less than one year, unifying the weight class with world title wins against Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. Sandwiched in between Smith and Saunders for Alvarez was a mandatory title defense against Avni Yildirim.

smells like Canelo - Smith Jr is coming up, what would be the excuse not fighting Bivol or Beter next - Joe Smith Jr is a legit champ, Joe Smith hits harder, Canelo needs a tune up before facing Beterbiev, Canelo cant fight them all, what else is there?

Agreed, Canelo should go to light heavy. That’s where his strongest challenges would be. He will walk all over anyone from middleweight to super middle, and he’s probably too big for the middleweights now. Canelo needs to face those with strong chins and who are willing to hit him with shots that he can’t walk through

Benavidez should then follow him to light heavyweight, as he's really big for a super middleweight. Hopefully Canelo will fight him one day.

Canelo likes acceptable level of challenges: when he's not conning the public, but doesn't put himself in a legitimate underdog position either. If he fights Beterbiev, it will be in 2023 at minimum, depending on how much Beterbiev will slide by then. Canelo will still be in his prime and Beterbiev will be 38. Good timing for Canelo.

Benavidez would NEVER go to light heavyweight. He’s content fighting bums at a catchweight like Angulo at 171lbs or Kyrone Davis at 169lbs.

Yea,doubt Benavidez can make 168 much longer. Imagine Canelo,Beter,Bivol,Ben,Joe and Zurdo all at 175?? Then again we probably get the same same situation at lightweight with our luck...
