They all were members of "over 35" club and show they are on the slide. Beterbiev is next. But to be sure Canelo will wait until Beterbiev is 37-38. It would be naive to think it's anything, but a carefully thought out plan. And it's not like Canelo himself is a B-level fighter. Plus the meat, let's not forget that.
Hmmm, how many top 5 boxers of ANY weight class are jumping up 2-3 divisions to feed on the guys with legit belts??

Alot of others have cone out and said Mayweather got destroyed by Errol Spence and Lamont Paterson in sparring . Theres stories of mikey garcia getting the better of pacquiao in sparring and we all know manny would killd mikey in a real fight as well as we all onow Mayweather is world better than lamont and spence. Sparring is just training, means nothing in a real fight. Stop bugging

Canelo should forget about Makabu. It's a risky fight that he will get little credit for, just because the guy is pretty much an unknown

The usual haters are ignoring the vast size disadvantage Canelo is here, and criticize him for choosing Makabu as if Canelo was some career cruiserweight avoiding Briedis or something.

thats why im not buying this just yet. if reynoso was out there not just talking hypathetically which is one thing if an interviewer ask him and he says maybe canelo would do this or that but actually contacting the WBC and making business dealings on canelo's behalf without his involvement and then publically speaking about it... that is a huge problem and a fireable offense. I think canelo was in the loop the entire time and that is why reynoso will still be around next fight.

That's all bull**** from Canelo, like your trainer agreed to a fight without your consent and knowledge?? Ktfoh
He's probably feeling the heat of cherry picking Makapoop, fans and casuals have reacted too negative to the fight, he's now doing anything to save face

There are steps to cherry picking, without causing an uproar in the boxing community.
            1. Canelo could have brought charlo up to 168 for a fight, knowing fully well he has the physical attributes to win.
            2. If you want to move up a division for a title fight, it's either you have cleaned up your division,(then we can excuse you to cherry pick a scrub at the new weight) or you are moving up to fight the best in a new division. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT THAT.

              1. Would bringing up GGG (age 40 in April) to 168 be considered a "cherry-pick?"
              2. Would fighting Beterbiev (age 37 in January) at 175 be a harder challenge, than fighting David Benavidez (age 25) at 168?

Thank you. Makabu may not be elite but he is a competent boxer/puncher with quick hands and he has a decent chin at cruiserweight.

I'd say that in a pound for pound sense that Makabu is better than Chris Eubanks Jr. So this would be like a WW stepping up to fight Eubanks at 160. Except I do believe the jump from 168 to 200 is much harder than from 147 to 160.

I thought it was "he struggled with welterweights" ? In any case that's just what Mayweather said - it's not like he is a disinterested party.

Is that true? I hadn't read that yet. Where did you read that? Do you have a link?

                      1. at this point he'd get criticised for dragging Charlo p to 160 - even though that would make no sense
2a. trouble is that he has already won a legit belt at 175 so moving up to fight a scrub looks like he's avoiding Bivol and Beterbiev.
2b. My money is on him fighting Joe Smith Jr if he wins vs Smith. That's a very marketable fight.
