  • Comments Thread For: WBA Confirms Santa Cruz Will Remain At Featherweight, Commits To Facing Wood-Conlan Winner

TAMPA - Leo Santa Cruz is prepared to play by the rules to retain his current title status. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the four-division and reigning WBA "Super" featherweight beltholder has complied with a mandate to inform the sanctioning body of his plans at the weight. A previous ruling called for Santa Cruz to inform by December 13 of whether he planned to remain at featherweight and properly defend his belt or if he were to remain at junior lightweight in which case he would have been forced to vacate.

Leo Santa Cruz vs Emanuel Navarrete Unification coming? Would be a great fight stylistically and Navarrete is available and a Free Agent

Garbage that he doesn't want to fight Russell Jr though and I like Leo but come on

Not surprising. He was never truly a super featherweight; he won a vacant belt against an unranked guy and then sold it to Tank.

Too lazy to look up the ranked contenders, so here are the current/former/future world titlists on his resume (full titlists only, no Regular/Interim nonsense):
W vs Eric Morel RTD 5
W vs Alexander Munoz TKO 5
W vs Victor Terrazas TKO 3
W vs Cristian Mijares UD 12
W vs Abner Mares MD 12
W vs Kiko Martinez TKO 5
L vs Carl Frampton MD 12
W vs Carl Frampton MD 12
W vs Abner Mares UD 12
L vs Gervonta Davis KO 6

118: IBF champion, 3 defenses, moved up
122: WBC champion, 4 defenses, moved up
126: WBA champion, 1 defense, got robbed by Frampton, won it back, 3 more defenses and counting
130: WBA champion, lost on the first defense to Davis

His 130 belt was pretty fraudulent but at 118-126 Santa Cruz was legit.

Looks to me that the WBA has forgotten about dissolving their 'extra' belts. They need to clean that stinking mess up. Understanding this BS of belts is not worth the time of day.

Almost 3 years since he fought at the weight and still gets to keep his title. Has that ever happened before?

Talk to Spence and Gary Russell they seem to never fight but are able to keep the belts
