I always tell people Canelo's a way different fighter than the guy who fought GGG twice.

After Floyd, he could still be hit, as the fights against Lara, Khan, and Cotto showed.

He's looked like a world beater especially since the Jacobs fight
I have a tough time determining if he’s really gotten that much better post Jacobs or if it’s the quality of opposition. Early in his career, canelo looked great vs guys like baldomir, cintron, Angulo, but not as good vs trout , Floyd and Lara. Difference in level of opposition there. More recently, he didn’t look great vs cotto, ggg and Jacobs , but looked great vs fielding, smith , Yidilgrim. His performances vs Saunders and plant were in between for me. He won impressively but didn’t look as dominant as he did vs the slow plodder type guys.

Other than the Douglas loss, I wouldn't say those others are excuses.

Being far past your prime isn't an excuse when people like you want to discount his wins over Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks, but he himself can't be far past his prime 10 years after winning the belt against Holyfield, 16 years after he first won the title against Lewis, and 20 years past winning the title against McBride & Williams.

      Devil out!
