Lopez desperately wanted to fight Lomachenko. While obviously not in a position to demand a rematch clause himself, the former IBF, WBA “super,” WBC “franchise” and WBO champion wouldn’t have walked away from their deal had Lomachenko required one.

Loma and his team failed to get a rematch clause with Teo. He dropped the belt rather than fight Haney. Now he wants title fights again or a Tank payday.
Loma and his team never thought he’d lose. they did their business in that context. Going forward I suggest less professional arrogance and more sound management.
Next time Bob comes to Loma with the franchise BS, tell him no. If he tries to set Loma up in a “Manny Bradley trilogy” tell him no.
Loma is now high risk, medium reward. History tells us guys like these don’t tend to get fights they want until the earners decide to give it to them.Comment

The fundamental flaw of this article is that it ignores that rematch clauses are typically put in place to protect the PROMOTER not the fighter. Even if Lomachenko had the hypothetical leverage to force a rematch clause on Teofimo, he didn't have the leverage to force it on Arum. It was an in house fight and there was no upside for Arum to put in a rematch clause and I doubt there was anything in Lomachenko's contract that would allow him to force a rematch clause on Arum.Comment

Loma should fight who ever they put in front of him and not worry about the belts. If he defeats these young lions history will not care if he held the belts or not. If he waits for the belts he will age himself out.Comment

This report states that Lopez was not in a position to demand a rematch clause. That's nonsense. Their were both champions and both had what the other wanted. Both could demand it. And similarly both could refuse it. Loma refused it, but Lopez cold have said ' well were not fighting without one. If they stood their ground, eventually Loma may have gave in to the demand in order to get the last belt. Sometimes you have to compromise. But it was team Lopez that gave in, and now it's Loma that's rueing that decision.Comment
