if Dana could fix boxing, he would have become a promoter instead of building up a new sport. Every couple years Dana goes off on how ****ed boxing is, but he always chickens out when it comes to throwing his hat into the ring.

I think what happened is Dana and the Fertittas were originally wanting to get into boxing promotion but it just wasnt all that viable because of the relative costs and competition. The UFC would have been going cheap back then + the low fighter pay which was far lower still in those days.

Getting into boxing now would probably not be worth it for Dana and co either. If they put on boxing cards their options are A) fill the card with nobodies, which wouldnt draw B) fill the card with UFC guys, which might draw but probably not more than actual UFCs, and would be kinda dumb C) pay 7-8 figures for actual boxing names, but most of them draw the same or less as the guys hes paying 6 figures in the UFC.
