    Jonathan Banks vs. Sugar Hill

Who is a better trainer that came out of the Kronk Gym? They both learned from the late great Emanuel steward (RIP), but I think Sugar Hill has has more success. Turned Adonis Stevenson into a champion and turned Tyson Fury into a puncher. The guys who switch to Banks I think do it at the end of their career and go downhill, Klitlscho, GGG, Badou Jack. Am I missing others?

Steward wouldn't have had Fury fight the way he did under Sugar Hill.

I don't know much of anything about the politics and practice of trainers in boxing... However I have had some interaction with fighters who had cross polination in Philly and Baltimore with martial arts. There might well be similarities. In Martial Arts, many teachers are well known, some are excellent teachers and others are not good at all. What tends to separate you is your line... Just as you mention Kronk. But many linaeges are only respected by those who really have a true understanding of quality in the endevour. Most people go for the flash... I see it in boxing as well. Looking fly on the pads working with Floyd's dad, as opposed to maybe Jeff mayweather... who is not so well known but part of the same boxing family.

My point here is to say while Banks might have a different approach as opposed to the more vocal Sugar Hill, they probably both have a similar foundational philosophy. Fury is very well known to be extremely coachable... again speaking from experience lol... If I have three students? One guy might be able to duplicate a technique the first time shown, another guy may take 20 times, etc etc. Students that can do as they are instructed make a teacher look good. Fury makes his trainers look good because he has the capacity to take instruction and apply it. Another figher like that is Holyfield. Holly preferred to go out there and slug, but when he really was concerned, he listened... which is why he beat Bowe once, boxing instead of slugging and why he listened to Don Turner (another brilliant boxing mind) when he fought Tyson.

      Hopefully this makes sense...

REDEEMER was mentioning the other day that he views James Ali Bashir as Emmanuel Steward's true successor.

Banks already said he can learn a lot from Hill who he considers the best active trainer .

Ali Bashir was actually taught for decades by Steward he is by far more experienced then either of the two ,training heavyweights Bashir is the go to guy then Stacey McKingley then Hill the Kronk guys .

Banks is unintelligible so Steward wins by default.

And why do you hold Stacey McKinley in such high regard?

Listen to his interviews. He was the first one to tell how Fury should fight Wilder way before anyone etc. His insight is second maybe to only Bashir ,he’s on tru School sports you tube channel a lot . Clearly more heavyweights should go to him but obviously boxing doesn’t work out that way otherwise top trainers would have a long list of them training ,it’s actually the other way around just about every time so the who did a trainer train to be considered good is really bad myth ,the best trainers had only a few or even one fighter they got lucky to get .

Cus Damato, Futch , Steward , are arguably the best of all time no one attacked there reputations when they trained a heavyweight why do we do it to current trainers and question there legitimacy ? No training at least at heavyweight ever had a stable of killers . A great trainer is able to mold a fighter and or develop what he can do and nullify the opponents strengths . The guys I named are the best at it . McKingley having Trevor Bryan is an example , however he’s not that good imop so we’ll see if he actually can make something of him . A good heavyweight under him is another story .

Hill easily. Banks was a good student but a poor teacher. I never rated his corner work when he cornering Wlad.

Never really thought about it before but surely Sugar Hill would’ve been a great match for GGG. What could’ve been.
