James Kirkland; Life on The Ropes, Career Secondary

Basically this seems like a basic case: An ex-felon got caught buying a firearm, which is a no-no obviously. And for this he's facing around 4+ years. So I guess if the incident were more serious (shooting, robbery, etc.), he'd be facing, what, 20 to life?
The article states Kirkland bought the gun for protection after being robbed. But if he had a gun and used it the next time he was being robbed he would be up **** creek without a paddle if he got caught. Man, he should have told Golden Boy to get him a bodyguard. (Wait, can ex-felons even have armed bodyguards? Don't they have to stay the hell away from guns?)
This is a messed-up situation. People should be able to protect themselves, but Kirkland had strikes, he should have been smarter.
And yeah, it's probably wishful thinking that if the Feds want to give you 45-54 months that the judge is gonna give you less than 20. But hopefully the court can see Kirkland is a few wins away from being a potential big star and hopefully having the resources to turn his private life around.
I wish James Kirkland the best and hopes he can return to the ring sooner than later.Comment

I hope you are right but he will be 39 with a 13 year layoff. Pretty hard to imaging. Then again Foreman KO'ing Moorer was hard to imaging as well.
Are you talking **** or does Ike plan on making a run when he gets out?Comment

I did actually. There is several ways to avoid **** like that other than going and getting a gun like a dumbass.Did you read the article? It said he was robbed at gun point earlier in the year. I am not saying it was the the best option but it is clear he was concerned about his safety: he should have just hired a body guard.
As an aside, I have never understood how one can be released from the penitentiary and not have full rights back.
I have to admit i love his style..... Hope he does short time....Comment

lol dude I was being mostly sarcastic.
I'm a big Ibeabuchi fan and always believed he could do it,I had big confidence in 204 he would get released,5 years is not that much,he said he was training in there but looked completely out of shape at the parole hearing(keep in mind that was in 2004!).
Then I had my hopes up in 2007 again but he was denied again.
Everything I read says he is a role model inmate but why does he fail 2 paroles then?
Kep faith up,read more interviews for 3 years that he is staying in shape.....had second thoughts.
3rd parole hearing was in february of this year,I was 100% sure they would grant him parole,I mean only guys who actually have knife fights or something fail parole 3 times and surely a ''role model'' inmate as described by guards and inmates would get out.But again they denied it.
It's obvious to me he ain't doing something right.I think the sole basis of him not being released is his mental state but after 10 years in prison you can't be 100% lucid can you?
Like you said at age 39 with 13 years layoff(big ass layoff) and overweight the chances are slim to none. And he ain't no Gorge Foreman.
But I still hope he fights again.Comment
