James Kirkland; Life on The Ropes, Career Secondary

On March 7, junior middleweight James Kirkland (25-0, 22KOs) picked up his most impressive victory to date, a six-round destruction of top contender Joel Julio. Back in the dressing room, a delighted Oscar De La Hoya [Golden Boy Promotions president] congratulated Kirkland on the win. De La Hoya asked him "are you ready to become a champion? Are you ready to make some serious money?" The bright lights. The big money. Everything was coming together. [details]

45 to 54 months?? Damn, just damn.

I hope him the best but typically when the prosecutors in a federal case are asking for that much, it's usually going to be around that much. I hope I'm wrong.

    Free Kirkland!

Pretty ****** to buy the gun with your own ID. Makes me think he wanted it for something right away and didn't give a ****. Probably not safe to let him out for a while. Don't drop the soap Kirkland. Night, night, Keep your butt hole tight

This is awful. I had high hopes for him. He was so entertaining to watch. I wish him the best of luck, but his doesn't look good.

                  Sucks

Saw him at the Latin Fury card in Austin and he seemd chill. Then again, he WAS on the clock. Why the hell did he need a gun is my question.. Good luck to Mandingo Warrior. He's gonna need a f'kn miracle!

Damn man, i hate to hear this type of news that young talented athletes just end up throwing their careers away. He did have a make some bad moves in the past, fine, that's ok, but then turned the corner in life and was headed in the right direction with boxing; why go back and make any kind of negative moves ya know. Oh well right...
