Roach said that if he was forced to fight him in his first defence he'd advise him to give up the belt, and I lost a bit of respect for Roach when he said that. But to be fair to Roach, he said that he'd have no qualms about Khan being able to win, he said he was sure Khan was ready to outbox Maidana, but claimed he wanted a build-up first, with Maidana fighting on a Khan undercard, to make it a bigger fight. He said "why make the fight for nothing now when it could be a big fight down the road?"
But it won't be Khan's first defence, it'll be his second, by the time he has to fight him, so I hope Roach changes his tune, or that Warren over-rules him. Khan will fight whoever he's told to fight - he wanted to rematch Prescott but Warren wouldn't let him. Khan would lose all credibility if he ducks Maidana, and IMO he could definitely outbox Maidana with Roach in his corner, as long as he doesn't get careless. And it would be a great opportunity for him to come of age by proving he can beat a big puncher. It would put the Prescott gremlins to bed.
