I wonder if he can still fight Morrell for the mandatory spot now that he is not getting the Bivol fight? And Bivol's team wanted to wait for the Canelo fight but that was never going to happen.
I doubt it tbh, Ryder will fight anyone but the people behind him will probably steer him in another direction. Shame that fight never happened.
Ryder vs Gongora is a good shout, like the OP suggested.
I really hope Ryder gets a big fight at 168, one of the nicest guys in the sport.
Not for this fight, but for blocking the Bivol-Zurdo fight, that was was definitely on him.
Yeah it sounded like it. But Bivol fighting on an RCC card is good imo. Means maybe he's taking more control of his career. I still want to see him against Ramirez and Buatsi next year.
wtf is this sh^t? Zurdo wants to fight why not make that fight
fans with their selective outrage this dude is the 175 version of Andrade, talented and skilled but boring as f^ck and as of late he is fighting NOBODY
Since people just whine for no reason - Zurdo booked a fight with Gonzalez on Nov 11. Bivol was mentioned as one of top opponents for Canelo (while Zurdo wasn't in the sweepstakes). Once Canelo beat Plant (Nov 6th), they celebrated for a bit then started thinking about opponents. Canelo decided to pick Makabu on Nov 16. By the time he made his choice, Zurdo was already booked.
Bivol's management did what any other management would have done if there's a chance you get a fight with most popular fighter in the world and one of pound for pound bests. There's absolutely no blame on them.
if you want to blame someone, blame Zurdo's manager who jumped the gun and booked his fighter too early and decided to go for optics of Bivol ducking him, while fully realizing that's bullsht. At the same time, both fights are in December against subpar opposition. They are tune ups, there's a really good chance we see Bivol/Zurdo fight in March-Apr of next year. Hell, it could even be a co-feature bout on Canelo/Makabu in order to show off the fighters.
