As someone who has boxed and done martial arts my entire life. I can tell you for a fact YES!! Even with weapons the shell is still effective.
While it still has the same weaknesses as it would have in boxing, the stance itself is useful in any situation. Knees are slightly bent which makes it useful for movement and shooting in for the takedown. You have 1 arm held low for quick jabs to keep the enemy at a distance and to stuff takedown attempts. Shoulder roll is useful for avoiding knife stabs and placing you in good position for disarms.
It's truely amazing in all aspects of the fight game even if it is difficult to master.

The shoulder roll in a street fight? It would be effing disastrous. You still get hit with the shoulder roll but with boxing gloves, it slides over your shoulder and the top of your head. A fist won't. It will get through the little gaps or just crack you on the side/top of your head/temple area. Absolutely terrible to ever think of using that in a street fight.
