Lol come on daggum, you know there is nothing Canelo can do, no one he can fight, for you to like him. He can go up to HW to fight Usyk and you still hate him.
In late 2015, when Canelo had not fought at the full 160lb limit yet and GGG was drooling for 154 fighters to come up and fight him, Canelo turned down GGG at the full 160, citing he is not a MW yet.
This is why initially, in 2015, he told GGG he would only fight him at 155lbs.
Now yes, 155lbs is technically MW, but Canelo was not ready to fight at the full limit. The fight ended up happening in 2017 at the full 160 limit after Canelo felt comfortable beating a terrible fighter in JCC Jr at 164lbs. He thought since he felt good at 164, he is ready to fight the best at 160lbs. He was confident. This is why his first fighter at the full MW limit was GGG.
As far as 175lbs goes, and Beterbiev, Bivol and Smith Jr, these are the fights I wanted to see Canelo take. I am disappointed they are not next.
It is clear that at this point, Canelo is just chasing accomplishments and attempting to “make history”.
While Makabu is hardly the worst fighter he could choose for May 2022, and CW is a new weight class for him or any Mexican fighter, I am not 100% thrilled with this match. I do think it is intriguing, could be dangerous, and appreciate that Canelo at least chose a champion and a top 3 fighter of their division to fight for the Cruiserweight WBC title.
He could have just waited and fought in some BS vacant title fight vs a completely worn out and shot to sh/t fighter like Pacquiao vs Margarito at 150lbs.
He could have fought the invisible and unknown WBA Cruiserweight champion Arsen Goulamirian, who is no where to be seen in The Ring’s top 10 Cruiserweights and has zero wins over a live body.
If this is the route Canelo is taking, he has to realize that his critics will also call for him to fight The Ring champion at Cruiserweight Mairis Breidis. They will want him to fight Dorticos too. As well as Okolie.
His critics don’t care about who he fights. You know damn well you don’t care if Canelo beats Beterbiev, Bivol and Smith Jr. You will still not be pleased with him. If that is the case, why throw out names he should fight and pretend to be satisfied if only he fights those names?
It would be a lot more respectable and consistent if you just come out and say you hate him and there is nothing he can do and no one he can beat to change that. Rather than this, throwing out names he should fight when you really don’t care who he fights. You just want to nitpick at his career and every fight.
