Would Canelo have more Mexican support if he looked more Mexican?

Despite his skin color most normal Mexicans (brown skinned) give him tons of respect. It wasn't always like that, he's come a long way. And that "I will never fight another Mexican" comment he made a couple years ago was mainly due to white guilt.

I've heard Canelo was slow to be embraced by the Mexican fans, is part of that due to the fact he looks more like he should be fighting out of the Emerald Isle? That Mexican accent he's using to speak english now sounds forced as well.

I actually believe more mexicans like him because he white skinned and it garners more attention plus he's always representing . a few years ago he wasn't well liked by Mexican fighters but now I think he's earned their respect like chavez .

No. The hate is rooted in his collaboration with a billion dollar entertainment company called Televisa at the start of his career in his teens.

Ignorant Mexican fight fans (and ignorant Mexicans in general) felt they were padding his record and choosing people he could demolish.

That hate spiraled out of control and he was never able to shake off the stigma. His collaboration with Televisa Network hindered his likability and made fans su****ious.

Till this day you’ll hear fight fans in Mexico completely disregard his accomplishments, whether valid or not.

He could fight, destroy 1995 Roy Jones Jr and they would say “He was probably a bum, that’s all he does, beat up bums. Put him in there with a real boxer!”

Sorry for long post, but it has nothing to do with his light skin or red hair. There are many White Mexican hero’s, so skin color isn’t relevant. Even Chavez and his son are kind of white if you look at them.

Mexicans are not like Africans or Chinese they are a mix race of indigenous and Spanish.

Even in modern Hollywood movies they’ll still work that sepia tint when the setting is in Mexico.

Movies like; Traffic, Man on Fire, Sicario, etc

Either they add sepia, or the setting is in a dusty little Pueblo.
