Brendan Ingle loved Muhammad Ali & trained all his boxers to follow him. Brendan taught that the only thing a high guard achieved was mitigating, but never avoiding, punches. You avoid punches by standing there with a clear view of them, no gloves in the way, & knowing enough to move your head away from danger. So far as Ingle was concerned the low hands were a strength, not a weakness.

There is a massive problem with this approach, that if you are a boxer with your hands down by your waist, & your eyes fixed on your opponent, your opponent can throw a really wide shot that goes outside your field of vision so you just don't see it coming. That was how Herol Graham was KO'd in a fight he was dominating (v Julian Jackson), that was how Kelley reached Hamed & that was how Bari Awad just got KO'd in a fight he was dominating. The Herol Graham & Bari Awad KOs are remarkably similar.

I think KG's approach was to look for the KO which is not him. So he was rolling out and switching immediately to land power punches. If he had boxed orthodox for 9 rounds, softened KM up, then yes go looking for the knockout. KG tried to rush the fight. Awful mistake which I dare say will not be repeated. Other than that, it is was a complete mismatch.

When Kid was changing southpaw he was eating right hands, he was fighting better in orthodox.
