Miguel Cotto: "Pacquiao Never Fought a Fighter Like Me"

And that was at the time that Top Rank and Golden Boy had a fresh alliance and Mosley would've jeopardized it if he made a stink about that decision. Mosley is expressing what he really thinks now that Arum is freezing him out.Comment

So right after the fight isn't when a fighter is gonna be the most honest? It's gonna be over a year after when the guy that beat him is getting a fight he thinks he should get.
You guys are seriously unbelievable. Mosley knows he lost that fight. You're reaching HARD to justify Mosley opening his mouth now.Comment

Pac isn't a blown up fighter fighting way above his best weight. His best weight now is 140. Where he started from is irrelevant, especially as he turned professional when he was only a boy, and didn't have an amateur career.
He didn't just outskill Hatton, he held his own physically against the man most objective analysts regarded as the physically strongest fighter in the division.
So it's completely irrational, IMO, to claim that a fighter who is now a natural Jnr Welterweight, who is the lineal Jnr Welterweight champion, and who is rated P4P #1, couldn't be competitive at Welterweight.
If he lost narrowly to Cotto, he might retain his #1 position because of the weight discrepancy. If he lost badly, I'm pretty sure he would go down many places in the P4P lists.
Pac is the same height as Cotto, and the same fight night weight as Mayweather. He and Roach have both said that 140 is now the weight he feels most comfortable at, and that he doesn't think he could return to Lightweight even if he wanted to. There's no rational reason at all not to view him as a natural Jnr Welterweight now.Last edited by Dave Rado; 09-10-2009, 06:13 PM.Comment

Wow, most of the posts I've seen are from Cotto or Pac haters, with a few people trying to insert some sanity back into the threads. What threads have you been reading?Comment

Fact is, almost every boxing analyst on the planet scored it to Cotto - most said it was very close, but they scored it to Cotto.Comment

Nov 14th is where the telling of the tale proceeds, articles and interviews from both sides don't matter. evaluating both fighters you have to come to the conclusion that Cotto is the better fighter, however Manny is growing legs that only grow on ATG's, it's a Floyd thing where his accomplishments and titles won sounds great until you dissect the fights. Erik beat him the 1st time off pure skills, no doubt Pacquiao is a better fighter but he is not a re-programmed fighter, he still ****s out he's just smarter with it, Cotto is to Pacquiao now what Erik was to Pacquiao for the 1st fight, it will boil down to pure intelligence and Cotto, to me, is the smarter fighter. if Pac wins it'll be due to a cut bothering or stopping Cotto, it will HAVE TO be due to an early cut because if Cotto fights that fight uncut or if it isn't so ****in bad like it was with plastercheato and Clottey and Cotto can remain himself throughout the fight and not a fighter with such a bad gash he'll win decisively..Comment

Hatton still won 10 out of 12 rounds against Lazcano, despite it being one of the worst performances of his career. But he would never have got the fight with Pac based on that performance. He got the fight because he showed a vast improvement against Malignaggi, whom he destroyed. And Malignaggi is better than the Hatton haters pretend - the fact that he deserved to win in his recent fight against Juan Diaz proved that he's a legit top 10 fighter in his division, although I admit he's not an A grade fighter.
A sizeable minority of people thought Hatton would beat Pacquiao, and almost every boxing analyst thought it would be extremely competitive. It bugs me that everyone changes how they see the fight after the event, just to discredit Pac's wins.
You're saying he'll be tested for the first time against Cotto now, but that's what everyone was saying before the Hatton fight. If Pac wins, you'll say he wasn't really tested because Cotto was washed up. If Pac beats Mosley you'll say he wasn't really tested because Mosley was too old. If he beats King King you'll think of some reason why he wasn't really tested.Comment

Haha, you guys are amazing.
