He still had a solid fight and cut off the ring quite successfully. Just surprised by him not using his jab the last couple of fights and he's a got a good one.
Canelo gets a B- from me for his non-existent jab

Judges don’t care about jabs, so Canelo doesn’t either. Hence why he throws right hands, hooks, and uppercuts ways more than he throws jabs.
Notice his opponents outjabbing him, but getting nowhere with it, getting KO’ed or beaten over 12 rounds.
Canelo cares more about accuracy and choosing the best punch to throw. When you are stalking a fighter and they are on their bicycle, a jab won’t necessarily be the best punch to throw.
Look at his fight vs Jacobs. Jacobs was busier with the jab by a good margin, Canelo threw less jabs, but landed more jabs and landed more power punches.
Everyone likes to parrot that the jab is the most important punch in boxing. But this is not always the case for every fighter, every style, every opponent. Fans overlook that some boxers just don’t necessarily need the jab as much as others do.Comment

Clean shots and Power shots scores the most points when scoring a fight. Plus Plant has a longer reach than Canelo.Comment

Ding! Canelo showed the speed of his jab can make up for reach in that fight. Was interesting that Canelo was finally listed at 5’7.5”, he’s been listed as tall as 5’9”. Crazy that fights where millions are bet on the measurements can be guesstimated or just plain faked sometimes. It said he has a 70”‘reach I think. Did they stop doing from the armpit measuring? Anyway that’s still long for a guy his height, if you can believe anything these days. Canelo doesn’t need to jab often, his success with this style proves it. He just needs to block or slip his opponents Jab and land 90mph fast balls all over his opponent, left, right, upstairs, downstairs. His power is what gets his opponent to flinch all over the place. Eventually they duck right into a fight ending shot. Canelo has a good jab. He’s not trying to win a decision though. He lands like %45 power shots as it is. Pumping the jab all night would just slow him down at this point. Nobody should watch this fight and think it would have ended earlier if only Canelo jabbed more. He’s The Pope. It’s like saying Floyd would have been better if he did things off the jab more. Tropes are for lesser fighters..Comment

Canelo walked down a tall fighter with fast hands and great timing. Canelo added the jab after the 7th round to give Plant a different look and put in body shots and finished plant. At no point did Canelo look like he was in trouble or could not figure out Plant except for the 1st round maybe? Canelo gets an A in my bookComment

Canelo has always had freakish long arms. You could see it specifically in the Rhodes fight. He’s grown into LHW torso but his growth in the legs were stunted. He’s literally the RUNT from the Alvarez litter, just not in the initial batch

Golovkin neutralized Canelo with a beautiful and stiff jab. Could argue that single punch should’ve won GGG both fights.Judges don’t care about jabs, so Canelo doesn’t either. Hence why he throws right hands, hooks, and uppercuts ways more than he throws jabs.
