  • Well done Canelo. I thought the fight was pretty close, not as the judges saw it. But yes, I said Plant has to be extra sharp in the second half of the fight, but he faded.

Maybe Benavidez can give Canelo a better fight, but I don't think he would beat Canelo. Nor do I think Bivol or Beterbiev would.

I hope Canelo isn't juicing. The man is as strong as an ox and has a granite chin.

No one in the sport has been tested more than him.

His chin is reaching Hagler/Chavez levels his face didn’t even have a scratch.

      • I don't know what fight the person that wrote this article or judges Steve Weisfeld & Dave Moretti & showtime commentator Steve Farhood were watching, but going into the 11th round I had the fight even & a page where I was connected to which the majority were Mexicans, most had it the same(even). But in the 11th Canelo connected that shot that Plant never recuperated from & clearly won the fight.

          • Imagine what a Roy Jones Jr. in his prime at 168 would've done to Canelo? Or even if Hagler moved up 8 lbs. Canelo fights all these British guys, Khan, Smith, Saunders, etc. Now Plant(USA). I've been watching boxing for over 50 yrs and Canelo, in my view, is very ordinary. What he is, is a decent boxer, with a great chin and good power. He's very fortunate he doesn't have to deal with " greats " in their prime. It is what it is, he's the best of a bad bunch. It's not his fault. He was fighting tougher fighters years ago. Now he's just collecting paper belts that look great on the resume." - Posted by Breeto80
Canelo is fighting everyone round the world European/American etc there is a reason Roy was never undisputed at super middleweight, he admitted it himself in an interview those Europeans were hard work for less money. Roy was more an American super middleweight champion, he never proved he was the best. Canelo has proved he's a world champion, yeah his doping record is dogy and thats a black mark but less face it in Roy's era so was the drug testing.

I have been watching back the Alvarez vs Saunders fight, because I think stylistically 'This match up will play out very similar'.

Can Caleb Plant win some rounds? Yes.

If Caleb Plant is to win, he has to show greater durability than Billy Joe Saunders. Most of the Middle-Weights around these days, all seem bothered by Alvarez's physical strength and power 'Which I find completely bizarre, because at the lower weights Alvarez was not really renowned for his destructive punching power'.

It is not actually Alvarez's technical ability or skills that intimidates his opponents 'It is this mysterious strength, that he has acquired since moving up in weight classes'.

Note: I think Canelo Alvarez will win via stoppage between the round 9-12.
I suppose this was a easy and straight forward prediction.

This era of super middle weights, are just way below par. And Canelo Alvarez while doing nothing highly sophisticated is exposing them all.

Nobody on here can honestly tell me, that fighters such as Carl Froch, Joe Calzaghe, Chris Eubank Senior, Nigel Benn, Roy Jones Junior I could go on 'Those guys would all be beating Canelo Alvarez's opposition'.

Andre Ward fought Kovalev at a completely different time, a unbeaten and optimally prepared Kovalev. NOT a Kovalev, purposely forced to fight in a matter of 6-8 weeks, after a tough fight against Yarde ? Ridiculous.

Canelo Alvarez is a great fighter, but in terms of pure ability I still don't think he is operating in the realm of Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Junior or even Bernard Hopkins.

The middle weight to light heavyweight divisions are below par, never before in history has a fighter come up from 147 'And THAT very same fighter's main attribute now at the higher weight classes is his physical strength and punching power' even though Alvarez at the lower weights was not considered a wrecking machine with destructive punching power.

I just think that is a clear indication, that this era of middle-weights are lacking something, that the past great middle weights during the 90's and early 2000's had in abundance.

Note: It is not the skill level of Alvarez which intimidates his opponents, I cannot remember a fight where he looked to be levels apart from his opponents in all of his recent fights. Alvarez does drop rounds, and from what I can see? Fighters can get to him. But somehow mysteriously, since moving up in weight classes his main attribute now 'Is that he is visibly stronger than all of his opponents, and his punches are visibly more damaging than his opponents'.

I just think this era of Middle-Weights are not a naturally as strong as past fighters. I honestly cannot envision Alvarez's power frightening Carl Froch for example.

I had it closer as well, but the thing that amazed me was WHO has Plant KO, the man would have trouble knocking a glass of water off the table. As usual he has a huge advantage against an over matched opponent, Good win for the carefully matched Alvarez. I want to see him fight David Benavidez in the worst way.

When you talk about carefully matched, you must be talking about Crawford, Charlo, Haney, and Andrade. Fighters looking ordinary against Canelo, speaks to his talent, not his opponents.
