You do realize the country of Mexico (130 million) will literally stop to watch the Canelo fight. Caleb Plant will make more than the entire ufc card combined.

One thing I will never understand is fans claiming how huge ufc is but how the fighters get paid terribly. That would be like someone saying how important and how big of a role their job is but get paid very little. Makes no sense imo.

If Canelo was Swedish nobody would give a ****, same with AJ and Fury with the UK fanbase, and those are the three biggest stars in boxing today. It highlights how reliant boxing is on jingoism to generate interest, rather than actual quality. The people watching the UFC will be doing so because its a good show and they like MMA.

It makes perfect sense. Its a sport that essentially started in the 90s, and only started getting big in the 2nd half of the 00s, the paydays have already roughly tripled since then too.

Boxing pay is deceptive because its -1% of the talent pool getting paid insane amounts and those are the paydays we hear about. But you probably have a higher chance of making a decent living in MMA than boxing.

And you think that makes boxing look good? I dont.

It is clear how bias you are. How reliant Boxing is on jingoism??? Boxing is the sport that has been around for over a century. "The people who watch ufc do so because they like mma." The people who watch Boxing are not Boxing fans???

I understand the sport started in the 90's. That is not true about making a better living in mma than Boxing. Check with John Nash on this topic. He has done extensive research on this topic and Boxing pays more at every stage and especially at the top.

I think the true gauge is the PPV sales. I'd bet my 401k that the UFC event destroys the Canelo-Plant event. And believe me, I'm a much bigger boxing fan then I am a UFC fan. I just know the card for UFC is the event of the year.

100% this brother! UFC and Dana White are the biggest piles of dog**** in the fighting industry. Their fighters make pennies compared to what boxers or even YouTuber's make. It's quite sickening honestly. Where does all the money go? I've always wanted to know. UFC is either grossly overpaying for broadcasting fees or they are robbing their fighters of good paydays.

I would say a higher proportion of people that watch boxing are the kind of people that only watch when a Canelo/GGG, Fury/Wilder etc type fight happens. I think its also much more based on select demographics, especially in more recent times as mainstream interest in boxing as a whole has waned. There arent Tyson, Floyd, Ali level global stars anymore. The biggest stars in the sport by far are Canelo, AJ and Fury, coincidentally all from two countries that are super jingoistic and where boxing has maintained an uncharacteristic level of mainstream interest.

What am I being biased about? the Canelo card sucking in comparison? am I wrong?

Yeah I dont buy this at all. The UFC currently has about 800 fighters signed out of an entire pro talent pool of maybe 10k (boxing is at least double that). Then you add to that that MMA fighters generally dont have extensive amateur careers and dont need to have too many pro fights before getting on the radar. Basically, your chances of making it in MMA are going to be far higher than in boxing, and the path from entering a gym for the first time to that point will probably be a lot quicker

Also, like I said before, UFC pay has increased a ton in a relatively short space of time, and will likely continue to do so. I expect it will be seven figures as standard for top fighters in the 2030s. I dont think anyone will be getting Canelo money though, and if they did it probably wouldnt be good for the sport anyway. Having to spend $50m to make a fight like Canelo/Plant doesnt exactly sound like a recipe for regular stacked cards.

Does it really matter though? Ufc has a better card than Saul's fight tonight.
