He's considered a great fighter in the UK. But he studiously avoided fighting outside of Britain and never boxed the great American's of that era. The majority of his world-title fights were against B and C grade fighters and absolute trash like Manfredo and Tocker Pudwill.

He had tremendous work-rate, a good chin but limited power. He couldn't sit down on his shots and slapped punches like an amateur but got away with it because of his amazing engine. Ward, RJJ, Toney, Canelo are all better than him.

I think him and Froch were both just a level below elite, very good but not elite fighters.

Also the fact that you keep saying "slappy" just means you already hate the guy and biased.
I'm calling him slappy because that's what he did in the ring ..he was certainly unique in the way he put it on someone ..I'm not saying he couldn't hit but he loved to throw slaps inbetween the real punches

Good old slappy no1 p4p atg

Not to say he would, but he definitely could.

He has no chance with Jones or Ward though.

I’m gonna be honest. I’ve been on the site for years. Anytime I see you **** on Joe it brings a smile to my face. He had so much talent and he just didn’t do enough. He is the single greatest underachiever I ever seen probably in all sports.

Crawford is itching his way up to the atg underachiever ...I wonder if he will knock calzaghe off the mount everest top spot of underachieving

calzaghe has done more than crawford so far with a shot eubanks win a robbery over hopkins and his win against a prime kessler whom Ward made look like an amateur

            That's calzaghes most notable wins

If crawford bests porter then he's equalled the kessler win

He just needs a robbery over an old man and a decisive win over another

That's how bad calzaghes ambition was

Sure, he was a great fighter, just not an all time great.

I don't know why judges scored a lot of his punches they were not landing cleanly with the knuckle part of the glove. He threw so many shots they seemed to give him points for just throwing his arms regardless of punch quality.

Plus he was apparently afraid of flying until he was 36 and there were a couple of ATG legends past-prime there for the taking. He suddenly stopped being afraid of flying.

                That's some BS right there.
