This makes sense from a business perspective. I had a long ignore list and loads of posters used to get pissed (especially the ones with trillions of alts) they can’t post on my threads. They made me a villain and used to moan daily about it.
However, as much as this is a profit-oriented business that gets lucrative based on traffic - posters also deserve some protection from the forum. Internet is a get-away from the harsh realities of life and some decorum needs to be enforced. How can you enjoy a forum when people do more stalking and trying force their inane/jaundiced/biased opinions on others through stalking and many alts? So it has to be a 2-way street.
1. Posters should be limited to one username.
2. Stalking should be banned.
When a poster starts telling you that you need to support a boxer he/she supports because the boxer you support has lost and is now a disappointment and keeps stalking you - it’s crossing the line and it defeats everything about fandom. Sport was built around wins and losses and the nucleus of it is that it replicates the harsh realities of life. And diehard sports fans support athletes and teams they can relate to - that’s the connection between sports and the people.
Regardless, I still think XenForo would be a better template for this forum than vbulletin. XenForo simplifies a lot of things that are much more complicated on this forum and also provides more in terms of things you can do. And that will help with traffic.
If I may ask: are you a web developer?
