It may be time for James to move up in weight. He'll turn 34 next year and may have outgrown the division. He appeared very emaciated, gaunt and weak. As, if he had trouble cutting weight. Also, his lack of power didn't help matters either.

James has a pinhead game plan at times. Instead of trying to box on the outside all the time, he gets into a slugfest and gives his opponents every opportunity to land on the inside and wear him down. This is at least the third fight that I've seen him do this. His fighting heart is clearly great, but if he wants to continue his career, he has to stay disciplined with a game plan that works best for him, outside only.

It was clear James gassed out pretty quickly. But the turning point in this fight really came when Butaev came out fighting southpaw to begin round 4. Shango got caught with some big lead right hooks and just seemed to not be able to adjust from that point on (and kept constantly leaning down forward to Butaev's left). Very smart by Butaev and his corner to make this adjustment. Butaev also did a great job of cutting off the ring and closing the distance inside on Shango. James just didn't have the power to keep up on the inside and Butaev was really able to wear him down by keeping that pressure on him. Entertaining fight and I hope to see James bounce back, however, will need to find some power and stronger legs to keep his fights on the outside to find success going forward.
