Why aren't there enough asian and african champs out there!

Boxing is dominated by either americans and mexicans

out in the limelight, save for pacquiao, are fighters from the far east and the african continent.

    why is this so?

Yup, way to open up a ****storm when the Pinoy and Mex folks read this one! What about Sugar Boy malinga? He did okay I remember! I think a lot of African, and probably Asian fiighters don't get noticed purely due to local economics i.e. they can't afford to fight abroad and perhaps they don't get media coverage to the extent of being picked up on the european/american fight radar.

      Lol

that is just prejudice and way off. It's because of the local economy as lol999 says, nothing to do with race. You can't train for boxing if your out tending the fields. A lot of people in "underdeveloped" nations spend their leisure time doing other things that do not require as much physical activity as the rest of their everyday lives. This drastically drops the amount of boxers out of a region and the number of good boxers that come from that region. In other words they may be too busy trying to survive to box. I know in many places they do have boxing and martial arts in these types of settings but those people never have the opportunity to make money from it the way a person in the US might due to the economy. By the way he included Mexico so your bashing mexicans is out of place on this thread. Mexicans make it more often than Asians and Africans just because they are in a slightly more industrial nation and thay are closer to the United States. Industrialized countries like Japan have all their own champs and big boxing things going on but we just don't pay attention to it here cuz we think we're the best and what they are doing isn't as good.

To sum it up it's a mix of culture, economy, and a feeling of superiority, not any traits inherent to any people.

adrsan84 had made the comment about boxers in 3rd world countries not boxing because they would not make much money. Honestly, its the same here. We might make more but it still isnt very much. I had a fight where I was paid $50 a round. I took the guy out pretty brutally so the promoter gave me an extra $50, i was happy to get it. Other fights I made a good deal more than $50 a round but thats how it is. Most guys start out fighting for peanuts. Anywhere you go boxing is a hard place to make it financialy. Most fighters in america have to hold down full time jobs to survive and then go fight, hoping to make it to the money bouts. Its just a tough business to get into...........Rockin'

Whoa there! What's up with the racism. That was very uncalled for man. I probably can't curse in English but I sure can in Spanish and Tagalog. Come mierda, chupa verga, putangna mo, tarando, gago, hijo de puta, maricon, bakla.

Just keep in my mind three languages. Now I can't be that weak minded. Just for the record I'm Asian and been living in Tejas for about 8 years now and that could probably qualify me to be Mexican, cabron.

I also was always told that people thought asian boxers wouldn't be able to cope with the mexican and *rough* and *tough* stree fighters in the US. I think that mostly goes with the size. If anything there would be many featherweight asian fighters that would come here though they need to be real good. I think this also requires a good management team. Murad Muhammed is trying to bring more asian fighters over(Bautista, Gorres, Penolosa) that have great talent. I think it's a great idea to mix it up abit. It seems like ever since Manny stepped in, asian fighters aren't being taken as lightly any more and that's a great thing!
