buff mikes statement about the asian and mexican people being weak minded, was in itself, extremely weak minded. And rather low class if I might add.
However, america does stand strong with its crop of fighters. It seems to me that being an excellent amatuer does not mean that you will then also become an excellent pro. Especially with the way the amatuer system is set up now, its pity pat and run away. Who ever does that best will rule the amatuers. That is not the way to train a fighter if he wants to turn professional. The amatuers and the pro are 2 completly different games. Overall, america does stand atop the boxing game. The mexican fighters and asian fighters dominate the lighter weights but america has good fighters in every weight. Also, I believe that we still have many of the old school trainers in america that will be bringing up the future. Learning to fight as professionals while learning in the amatuers.......Rockin'Comment

Not arguing here just wanna reply, first of all i never said third world countries, i don't use that term but thats irrelevent. You say that boxers fight for peanuts here as well but it's not the same. Fighting for peanuts here means having enough to survive but not being able to buy the plasma TV you've always wanted. Fighting for peanuts in other places in the world means your ass is hungry and undernourished at the end of the day, which is how an immense part of the worlds population already is without using their free time to box. Usually in America people can get some kind of support wether it be from a parent or whatever, they dont have that luxury in other less industrialized countries.Originally posted by Rockin1adrsan84 had made the comment about boxers in 3rd world countries not boxing because they would not make much money. Honestly, its the same here. We might make more but it still isnt very much. I had a fight where I was paid $50 a round. I took the guy out pretty brutally so the promoter gave me an extra $50, i was happy to get it. Other fights I made a good deal more than $50 a round but thats how it is. Most guys start out fighting for peanuts. Anywhere you go boxing is a hard place to make it financialy. Most fighters in america have to hold down full time jobs to survive and then go fight, hoping to make it to the money bouts. Its just a tough business to get into...........Rockin'Comment

As the popularity of Manny Pacquiao and Injin Chi grows, I expect more Asian fighters to compete and mix it up with the Mexican-dominated lower weight classes. Chi's fight against Morales showed that Asians can do compete with Latin fighters and now, it's Manny Pacquiao's turn.
This is very similar to what's happening in the NBA right now where we'll be expecting more European and Asian ballplayers to mix it up and compete with this American-dominated sport.Comment

There are probably a lot of great potentials all over the world, but never made it because of lack of recognition because of the economic situation and culture, etc. Heck, even here in the US, there probably had been more known real talents if it weren't for boxing politics.
After Pacquiao made a name for himself here in the US, promoter are now trying to find great potential from the Phillipines.Comment

i agree with most who had commented on this thread there although there are some champs outside america and mexico, the opportunities are still not there for more aspiring boxers.
In my honest opinion, boxing will be more exciting if new, fresh talents are discovered from other parts of the globe. This will renew worldwide patronage of the sport. I think American promoters should invest more in looking for other possible champions out there.
Who knows a new great boxer is just out there waiting for the right opportunity.Comment

You are a real peanut aren't you. Yes america is a super power and most of the money in boxing is generated in the US. US boxers also get the best opportunites to improve and prove themselves because of this. Also US fans want to see US fighters and find it hard to handle when their fighters are beaten by overseas fighters.Originally posted by buff_mike10Because america is a superpower, the reason for this is the people in the country are strong and determained. To say that people in Asia and Mexico are weak minded is not only racist, but also ignorant (which does not surprise me from a yank). I would love to see you live day to day in the conditions that the people of some of these nations live in and actually be able to survive physically let alone mentally.
Go back to your sheltered little insignificant life and follow George W like the drone that you are, and leave us to talk about the sport we love with intelligent human beings and not Red Neck Hicks like you!Comment
