After reading these comments I'm glad it's not my fellow Mexicans that are making excuses for the Valdez vs Stevenson fight getting made. By the looks of it, it's several non-Mexicans.

I'm a boxing fan, and I enjoy watching the best fighting the best, no matter where you're from. But if anyone is delusional, it's you, Valdez has already fought, beat, and proved he fights the best buy becoming number one in the division by beating the guy who was number one in the division. Who exactly has Stevenson beat, Herring is 35 and not anything special, he didn't fight anyone at 126 either, so if there's delusional fans it's the Stevenson fans, which I'm assuming you are. Now let's get to Bobby, Arum has no problem pinning Mexicans vs Mexicans, why, well it's pretty simple, they bring in money, and great fights, on the other hand Crawford, Stevenson, and even Loma here lately, have been spoon feed opponents until that big money fight arrives (usually against Hispanic fighters, again they bring in the dough) or their contracts are up and he wants to cash out. Valdez is Mexican, but not super popular one, therefore it's a big risk for Bobby to pin Stevenson against him, because even though it's a good match up, financially it doesn't make sense when Arum has other plans for Stevenson. In this situation it's really not the fighters avoiding each other, but it's Bob not wanting to risk it, so let's at least keep it real, Valdez is confident and fought the best in the division, while Stevenson has not, now, that doesn't mean Stevenson can't win, he might, but he is protected, just like Crawford was, for whatever reason Arum wants to do it.

Stevenson got paid almost $2 million and his fight only had an attendance of 5k including comps. I can see why they would be hesitant to make that fight knowing they'd lose a lot of money. If Stevenson hadn't bored everyone to death in his last several fights it would've been a no-brainer to do the fight on PPV. Even with the rampant piracy that has affected recent PPV buyrates I think it's a matchup that could do well under the right circumstances.
