I cant wrap my head around this. Oscar is finished at 36, and Mosley is prime at 38

    And oscar quit at 36?

    Whats going on?
Everyone's cut from a different cloth homie. Nolan Ryan pitched until he was 45 including having a perfect game near retirement.

...and Mosley beating Margarito doesn't turn him into a prime fighter again. He didn't look so great in his prior fight with Mayorga (which made the Margarito win IMO that much bigger). Shane's no where near where he was in '01

The only WW faster than Mosley is Floyd. Also the handspeed difference is not much.

well, there are a few things to consider when discussing this.

first off, I dont think Mosley is prime now. him beating up Margarito was badass, but dont forget he actually did struggle with Mayorga not long ago before that sick last second KO. Mosley is possibly the most technically solid of his career now, but imo he was overall faster, stronger and better around the first DLH fight.

second off, DLH drained himself a lot early in his career to make 130lbs and 135lbs. I mean, he was pretty darn big for 130lbs. Im sure something out of him.
DLH also had harder fights. early in his career his chin was considered 'shaky', since he got dropped twice by mediocre fighters. not something you would think he would have ever been labeled, but yea. his upright sort of stance worked well for him, but when he got hit, he generally is not able to turn away some of the power like a lot of other fighters do, his head gets snapped.

compare that to Mosley, who had a cakewalk career up until he fought Philip Holiday, and then pretty much more cakewalk fights until the DLH fight. the only other 'damaging' fights Ive seen him in were against Vernon Forrest 1, although nowadays hes starting to get hit more. the thing is its hit or miss with Mosley...either hes dominating, or hes barely winning/losing. but overall hes had an easier career.

then you have DLH not being disciplined inbetween fights as his career went on, especially after Hopkins. Mosley was always consistantly active and seemed to keep himself in shape at all times, and therefore hes still in good shape even at his age.

well, thats my take on it.

There are always exception like JMM, but look at Vargas, Mayorga, Morales, Margarito, and now Cotto. Seem to all be shot or past it at young ages.

I wonder why. Maybe it's because they are stereotypically more the quintessential "warriors" as opposed to a lot of black boxers who are more "slicksters" and thus preserve themselves better and as such hispanic boxers perhaps take a lot more damage during their career. At least that's a preliminary theory.

How many of those guys are not exciting to watch though?? They put people in the seats at the cost of their health. Unlike the cherry pickers who want to throw one punch every minute and claim he won at the end cause he was "flashy".

If Mosley was in his prime he would have brutally KO'd Cotto. The fact that I thought he still won the decision over Cotto goes to show how good Mosley is even though he is long past his prime.
well apparently three top welterweights in their primes couldn't do it either.

Yeah is sucks that he ended his career on a loss, expecially as he quit in his corner. It's really not the way you want to leave. He should have KO:ed some average fighters at 154 and the retired.
