With Al H in charge we had some of the worst step aside deals going on in boxing. The reason we didn’t get Mayweather vs Pac earlier…Haymon, the reason best weren’t fighting the best for 10-15 yrs…Haymon, he isn’t a passionate fan he’s an asset manager and he ruined the sport. You think Oscar is better, for starters Oscar doesn’t do F All at Golden Boy, Richard Schaefer ran GB and it steadily went down hill after he left, why? Because Schaefer was the link with Al Haymon, and as soon as he wasn’t there, Al waved his magic wand and made it so GB was a second rate promoter again, because he controlled boxing.
You love Uncle Bob and Al so much, have a think about it for a second, forget the US part, these guys only care about one thing and that’s keeping the old fashioned PPV gravy train running as long as possible. So, long as they can hold back technology and have fighters in complex deals with TV networks that prevent them boxing certain other fighter their winning and the fans are losing. That’s when DAZN swooped in, if not them it will be someone else. Forget they’re German for a second and think about what they want to do. They want the best to fight the best. Just like the UFC, but instead of the fighters getting underpaid like the UFC they are still paying the former PPV money and guarantees, it’s a win/win. We get the fights we want and the boxers can afford to retire when they want.
What probably needs to happen is a that within this framework is DAZN or whoever the main distributor is, need to find a way to affiliate with different apps, share the content and that way broaden the way the content is served, that is the next step of the evolution but it hasn’t happened…yet. What we def do no want is going back to the shadowy puppet mastering of Al Haymon, the guy doesn’t care about fans, let’s move on.
