    Usyk speaks and it's sad.

It seems pound-for-pound greats no longer seek KOs (or atleast the self proclaimed ones anyway.)

Remember when fighters use to try to KO their opponents.

    Usyk speaks:

"I had no objective to knock him out because my corner pushed me not to do that. In the beginning, I tried to hit him hard, but then I stuck to my job."

    " . . . he has just been beaten by a pound-for-pound great."

So his "job" as a "pound-for-pound great" is to safely spar and wait for three fat men sitting at ringside to announce he won.

The new way is to play it safe, after all trying for KOs, you know, that dangerous a fight might break out!

And you guys say we old timers don't give enough respect to the new guys - if this guy is the new definition of 'great' I have no respect.

I’m sure things were lost in translation. Even still, he was the smaller man and more skilled boxer so it’s understandable and obvious what hos gameplan was going to be.

There is a reason why boxing is called the sweet science. But yes, go on and tell an elite boxer how he should have fought, when he won clearly.

great is just a comparison to the people he has beat in the ring, maybe sub in the word better for great, or great for this era, every fighter is one fight away from being an over rated bum or exposed

You are p-ussyfing the fight game trying to turn it into an athletic event.

Millions are leaving their seats and heading over to watch the UFC.

Boxing, the "sweet science of bruising" - you forgot the part about getting bruised (so did Usyk it seems).

P.S. Did you know it was a chic who came up with the phrase in the late '20s.

P.S.S. Good jab on the Willie Pep avatar - it's because he was a short Italian not his style.

He did what he had to. Not everyone can be a super ko puncher

plus why shouldn't the smaller man dance around his opponent

Boxing anyone is always risky. Making the biggest fight of your career even more needlessly risky is ******. Nobody gives credit to any fighter who pushes for a knockout, gets caught and is instead stopped and loses.

It's not evel like we can say Usyk coasted to a win. This was a dangerous fight for him all twelve rounds. At no point did I ever feel he was avoiding danger. And he certainly tried to close the show in the 12th when he saw his opportunity.

Of course his corner said don't needlessly give this guy chances. That's their job, to give good advice that helps their guy make winning moves. Usyk was smart to listen to them.

Fury and Deontay fighting next week

I'm certain they'll hurt each other bad

and for you Fury-Deontay will be getting much more attention than Usyk Joshua
