  • Comments Thread For: Froch: I Don't Fancy Joshua in Rematch - He Needs To Seriously Change Tactics, Get Rough Early

Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch disagreed with Anthony Joshua's strategy in Saturday's fight with Oleksandr Usyk. The unbeaten boxer from Ukraine was able to outbox Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight titles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Usyk was just too good, felt he couldn't handle the size of AJ but was I seriously wrong. Idk what AJ does to beat him to be honest.

This is what I thought. There was no way he was going to outbox Usyk. Chisora landed some good shots by coming forward & winging overhand rights & hooks. If Joshua needs to take a fight before rematching Usyk he should fight Chisora. That will tell us exactly where Joshua is at these days. He is 2-2 in his last 4. I get why Usyk didn’t bother risking his shot against Joyce. Usyk will now be getting paid a lot of money for an immediate rematch. Joshua hasn’t looked great since Ruiz beat the stuffing out of him. He looked decent against Pulev but has not looked the same since getting stopped. We will soon see how Wilder looks after his first loss.

I would rather see a Usyk vs Chisora rematch than Usyk vs Joshua 2….Chisora did better against Usyk than Joshua did and the fight was a lot closer!

If Joshua has any chance in this, he needs to learn how to bully and get inside and go to the body, that's the only way to beat a boxer who moves. Unfortunately I don't think he will find someone in the U.K to teach him that, maybe Hatton, but who knows, for that he's going to go to the gyms in the southwest U.S or Philly, those areas are the best to teach inside fighting.

Joshua needs more of a stationary object to impose his size and power...Usyk didn't give him that and won't give him that in the rematch. There really isn't anything Joshua can do differently except get lucky and land a really big shot. Truth is that Usyk has a better chin and made himself a much harder target to hit than he did in either of his prior HW fights I believe out of respect for Joshua's power. His movement and stamina was at a peak and unless that changes I think Usyk will probably do even better in a rematch going in with all the more experience and confidence. Joshua is not going to improve his skills/speed/stamina/chin...Usyk is all wrong for him and always will be.

By applying tactics early he means hit him with the stool

I always like Froch's analysis'. I think Joshua should definitely change trainers. The only way I can understand that tactics is if he thought he would get a gift decision if he just stayed on his feet. No way he could have seriously hoped to outpoint Usyk like that with a neutral approach. He needs to bully and overpower him; that's the only way.
