Usyk said he wanted to go for the KO, but it wasn't part of their game plan. I believe him too. I think he could have finished the fight anytime after round 8.
Usyk Held Back

He could have finished it. But I think he's saying that he wanted to be a little careful and break him down through boxing and movement.
One of the best times to get clipped is when you hurt the other fighter. No point jumping in for it when you're the naturally smaller fighter. It's best to look for shots and be careful. Joshua was trying to come back with some home run shots the first few times he was hurt.
The margin for error is very slim in heavyweight boxing, especially when you're the one moving up -
He would’ve been knocked out. AJ hurt him several times but he just rode the punches well by being on the offensive. There was a point in the mid rds where AJ landed a big one and Usyk’s eyes almost popped out of the eye socket. Going for KO in rd 8 would’ve left him open to be caught flush with a big one.
He fought a beautiful fight and the only time he could’ve gone for the KO was in rd 12 and even with that - he couldn’t land anything significant.Last edited by BangEM; 09-26-2021, 12:05 PM.Comment
