Why were the rounds changed from 15 to 12?

The official reason was fighter safety after Ray Mancini-Duk Koo Kim.
More than a few people believe it was because boxing was on network TV back then in the states, and 12 rounds plus intros and interviews are easier to fit in one hour than 15 rounds are. -
To prevent serious injuries, since they assumed most ring related injuries occured between the 13th and 15th rounds. They should have made it 13 rounds though.Comment

The change was made in late 1982, after the Mancini-Kim fight....Kim died
"The real reason was because the TV networks put pressure on the leading boxing promoters for TV time purposes. 15 round fights cut into longer time slots that the TV networks felt could be used for other programs during certain times of the year."
Someone's opinion^^
It should be 13 like Bully said IMO...and a punch in the 5th round could kill you...or one in the 15th...Comment
