A purely technical analysis of Wilder versus Fury

This thread is an attempt to avoid all the drama, insinuations, etc involving this fight. If you must, go ahead, but let's try to stick to the issue of HOW either guy will win this fight.

Feel free to discuss key points to victory as well.

I will start: Wilder was successful when he straightened out his mega punch. For him to get legit opportunities to beat Fury that punch has to be straight as an arrow. Foot speed, and not letting Fury rough him up inside are other keys to victory for Wilder.

Fury needs to be diligent and use his reach at all times. He has to use angles and make sure Wilder is off balanced when in range. Backing up Wilder is important but no guarantee Wilder won't unload...

wilder simply needs to avoid heavy clothing, spiked water, snakes, bad refs and aim for his opponents bald smug head

fury has to find some other way of making wilder a zombie in the ring, maybe a gypsie hex or something like that & just smother him, lean on him if the ref allows and land a big shot to make him do the skanky leg

It’s a bit more complicated then that. Wilders success had to do with more of what Fury didn’t do then what Wilder did . Knowing this multiple things have to happen for a Wilder win .

        1. Wilder was successful using hooks not straight punches . Both knock downs were caused by hooks but set up with the right hand which Fury ate in the last fight . Wilder needs better hooks after the jab a lead hook off the jab can tag Furys weak side .

        2. Wilder may need to hurt Fury where he can’t get up, he’s won rounds after knockdowns so one per round isn’t enough at least on paper .

3 . Fury may have to be unfocused ,the first knockdown of Fury was only when he taunted Wilder and ducking inside where he didn’t need to be ,the second one was towards the end and Fury looking away from the shot initially a right hand then left hook making him fall hard .

The keys to Wilder he is in control of is active jabbing up and down to the body setting up or keeping Fury off balance as Wallin was doing . He needs the left hook more then any other punch ,not having it here will be costly so he has to make his straight right his second best punch fight night and will keep Fury guessing if anything where he may not get mauled again and have something to keep him at bay .

I have no doubt Wilder will make this a different fight either way ,should Fury make it an ugly fight and press him it will be difficult for Wilder to over come . We know how Fury can win he has multiple routes so need to into it to much but Wilder really needs to slip on angles and not stand and look at Fury ,he needs to counter on the fly and land the left hook ,Fury will be to smart the first few rounds watching the right hand ,if Wilder can stun him early it could be a game changer where the right hand comes into play late in the fight .

Some decent observations. I do think angles are important for wilder. You can't fight going back... especially against a bigger opponent.

The right does set up a lot of what Wilder can do.

He needs to get close to Fury. He does have comparable reach so it's not impossible.

One day that damn costume will show up on E Bay and sell for a pretty penny, almost as much As Wilder paid for it.

I think the weigh in will look be telling ,it would be very hard to see me Fury losing at 275 plus . I know we disagreed on the previous thread awhile back I did on the fight concerning his weight but this one is no different. Should Fury pack on the weight it will give him a big advantage because he’s 6”9 and carries it well , not sure what Wilder should weigh but weighing less doesn’t combat that factor of Fury knowing how to drain guys with rough tactics .

I personally think Wilder should weigh near 230 I don’t buy into the he performs better at a light weight in this one , surviving the first few rounds is crucial for Wilder that means in case Fury does attack off the bat he will need to be physically stronger and more weight is probably a better idea . He’s had enough time to adjust to a bigger weight .

Wilder has a frame that could pack on more muscle. Adjusting is crucial... Roy Jones being a cautionary tale for what happens when there are no adjustments. He has to get Fury's respect and show he can move forwards. Fury will also be trying to move Wilder backwards. The first few rounds will inevitably tell a lot about whether Wilder can make things different, or not.

What are your thoughts on bench pressing ? Will that help him push off on incoming Fury ? Not an area I have much knowledge on but from the I read it increases all around upper strength of course legs also have to hold up at least have endurance will not working legs hinder the upper strength ? Not to say Wilder isn’t but we never see it on social media .

Wilder is 6”7 he should weigh at least 230 here imop . I think it’s a loss waiting to happen say he weighs 220 and Fury is 280 .

There are incredible trainers these days. Its more the total routine than any one exerscize... One of the best fights to see how that works is Hollyfield versus Tyson. Don Turner taught him how to push against the "third leg" lol, the place where we are triangulated and could use a third leg. Holly could listen (like the one time he boxed against Bowe and won). He overcome the usual habit one has of avoiding a puncher trying to take your head off and went right into Tyson pushing him when he set to throw. Wilder would need strength and weight But could do something similar... though Holly and Tyson were similar sized.
