Norwood, Pac, Diaz...all examples. While not known as a puncher, Mayweather is usually an excellent finisher and given his speed and size has a chance to hurt Marquez early and look spectacular. I think it's why he took this: the chance to stop one of the P4P guys. If he doesn't, if Marquez guts it through, Mayweather could end up in a fight late but have a lead he'll be stingier with than any of the aforementioned.
Diaz put some nice shots on JMM for sure. He stopped him in his tracks for sure, but I don't recall JMM getting 'stunned badly' in that fight. I'll have to go back and take a second look at the fight. The Norwood fight happened in the 70's (ok, at least good decade ago anyway), so I wouldn't look at that fight for too many clues. I believe that JMM is a much better, more composed fighter now. Given the significance of the matchup and the pressure from his countrymen though, this fight does represent the biggest fight of his life (by a factor of about 1000), so, who knows, he may get overwhelmed by the moment. Here's hoping that he takes a double shot of steaming hot piss before the fight to calm any nerves.

I enjoyed watching the second episode. The Mayweather fans are coming on here crying because the JMM camp took shine away from their boy. LMAO.

Easy to assume a great fight. At 144? Until we see how JMM handles the weight, all we have is knowing Floyd grew into a quality Welter. I don't think anyone could call it a mis-match but Marquez winning still seems far fetched under these conditions.
              Cliff,

I have to respectfully disagree. Floyd was at 130 for about five years, and JMM was just 4 pounds down at FW. I realize that JMM didn't have the big name because he was playing third or fourth fiddle to Barrera/Morales/Hamed. But NOBODY was calling for a Mayweather-Marquez matchup. And if you had proposed it at the time, the concensus in the boxing community would have been "Floyd easily".

Are you using the benefit of hindsight given what Pac has become and what you saw in the Pac/JMM bouts?

i mean the Pac/Hatton i found very unsatisfying .. don't get me wrong, not the biggest Ricky fan in the world

but the loss was so humiliating that i wound up feeling sorry for Ricky.

You misunderstand...no one was calling for those fights for sure. However, if they were fighting, in those domains, given what we know of them in hindsight, the fight would be deemed (right or wrong) more competitive than it is at 144.

Just commenting on the dimensions of the scale.

HBO wants to make sure they turn over a profit with the money they're putting in for these fights. Considering in Boxing, nothing's guaranteed, they gotta get every **** for their buck. If their production leading up to the fight is better than the fights, then HBO did THEIR job.
