Don King absolutely put on stacked cards , as far as the red IMHO he was not leaving boxers broke either they still had millions they squandered on their own he was just taking an extra cut mobster style ..

He also was in a time period the market was basically just the U.S so he had no real competition in those 80”s years . He was also suspected of murder in the the day and was a very shrewd con artist who had a shady background more accustomed to a mob guy behind the scenes . For the sport however he really made boxing big but he would swerve anfd try and control the sport again if he was that King of yesteryear which would eliminate a lot of fights from happening in the much bigger market now .

He also single handily ruined Mike Tyson’s career and derailed a guy who may have went undefeated had King got shut out .

No. He put on some great cards but fighters who risk their health and even lives, shouldn’t be getting cheated out of what they deserve. Dana White take note, he’s arguably worse than Don.

Every fight that's considered a classic such as the Thriller In Manilla, you name it - Don King was behind it, and the thing is, sure he took more than his share and most likely skimmed his fighters, but let's not forget that even after his shadiness most of them were still paid in the tune of millions, but horribly mismanaged their financial affairs. It happens to this day, boxers continue to screw themselves.

I also hate when people criticise Dana White for being a dictator who doesn't pay his fighters well. Actually, he does pay them well, it's just not the ridiculous millions boxers get paid, and also one of the reasons boxing is pretty much a niche sport now and UFC is more mainstream.

And NO Don King didn't leave Tyson penniless. It was the succubus Givens and his reckless lifestyle that cost him millions. Hate hate hate when high and mighty millennials get on YT and bash King because they read somewhere he murdered someone - big ****ing deal, the guy wouldn't pay him a debt. And the fact he threatened to break Larry Holmes's legs meant we saw Holmes fighting during the early 80s when there was a lull after Ali's retirement. That's a good thing imo.

on don king cards, out of 4 or 5 fights, the first or 2nd fight on his cards would be headlining a DLH, Hearn, Arum, or PBC card today. I'll give you another example, and this is strictly off the top of my head because I was watching/recording live the night it took place..... Tyson vs Mcneely was a big event. It was Tyson's first fight out of prison as he had been locked away for a while. That undercard that was shown on ppv had

Lamar Murphy vs Miguel Angel Gonzalez : 2 undefeated fighters fighting for Gonzalez lw title. Ended in controversy as Lamar was robbed and his corner started a fight immediately after the cards were announced.

Seldon vs Hipp for Seldon's WBA title. : Joe hipp was probably the equivalent of what Povetkin is today. Decent contender that was tough and could take a beating, but he was slow as molasses in the winter. Seldon was obviusly gonna be a future opponent for Tyson..

Julian jackson vs Quincy Taylor - Taylor beat my mans jackson by knocking him out and took his title. Jackson is one of my top 5 favorite fighters of all time and he was always on Don King Undercards. I don't understand how he coudn't be made into a star when all of his fights ended with him knocking his opponent out or getting knocked out. This fight was played AFTER the the Tyson/Mcneely fight on the broadcast. I still have the vhs I recorded that night along with the poster that came in the mail.

These ppvs today are ****ing garbage. 3 hours of bs before the main event. Another stacked card was Hopkins vs Joppy. I was hyped for the Rahman/Ruiz fight, but Ruiz stunk it up by hugging for 36 minutes. Zab Judah was also on that undercard. You didn't want to miss a King undercard because he'd frequently have 2 champions that would later face each other in the ring on the same card to hype up a future meeting. If Arum and others weren't so ****ing greedy by putting a boring ass fighter like Shakur Stevenson headlining a fight, they could actually create some hype for a future opponent. We just don't see this today with promoters having 2 champions defend their titles on the same card setting up a future showdown. Even DLH did it when he fought Sturm on on the same card as Hopkins vs Allen 3 and the next ppv was dlh vs Hopkins. Mfers are greedy and we are suffering from it.

Larry Holmez, who succeeded in business beyond boxing, mentioned missing how DK would rip him off

i figured DK wasn’t sending guys home with nothing

DK should be a hero to boxing fans. He delivered all these major fights but is seen as a villain

today you’re happy to get a great main event

                  good co-main

                  and a decent undercard
