" Robinson was the one that started the ball rolling into the modern fighter I think Pep was just before this in his style "

On that I'll just disagree. Most of the styles we see today were present by the 1930s and 40s...earlier in some cases. Watch guys like Canzoneri, Chocolate, Charles...all fought in modern styles and would win in the modern era.

Pep...fights a lot like Ivan Calderon don't he?

That is not to say modern fighters wouldn't hang with the old legends or win some. If Willie Pep were turning pro today, he'd still easily be a champion but he'd also fight and train in today's environment. Meaning, he'd have between 40-50 fights and be in the P4P race while being considered anathema to the all-time debates by purists.

I've had this discussion a million times and I still disagree. Equipment and playing conditions have changed and advance to favor todays athletes in most sports. Boxing is no different. Less rounds, less fights, day before weigh ins, more divisions, more belts, better mouth pieces, heavier and better padded gloves, quicker stoppages. all these things make it easier for fighters today. It doesn't make them better.

I think it was Robinson himself who said that he never invented anything. He simply put everything together.

He also said that Willie Pep was the best pure boxer he ever saw.

People forget, that back then, boxers fought for the whole 3 mins of a round, not 20 secs at the end of a round.

Yup, he had a great first two minutes. Then Tszyu caught him with a counter hook in the last minute of the first and Judah was on his horse until Tszyu knocked him off.

Tszyu can be overrated by some, but only if he's rated above figures like Pryor, Chavez, Locche or Cervates. Beyond that, he fits in pretty much anywhere at 40.
