The trouble is --as Pac says -- that it does contribute something to the legacy. His financial clout and standing in the sport means he doesn't need belts, but as long as people measure how many belts a fighter won in their career, he's not going to ditch the opportunity to add that to his record.

Throwing the belt in the trash would be petty and Pac is above that, but yes, it might have been nice to make a statement by refusing to pay a sanctioning fee and politely declining to fight for the belt. Maybe that would have cause dproblems for Ugas though, I don't know.

Probably the best article written here all year.

Please, to all journalists: Call out sanctioning bodies like this. Put some venom behind it. Stop trying to be nice and just come out and say how trash all of this is. It’s ruined the sport and the label of “champion”. Act like it. Don’t throw shots here and there, in a sentence or two. Come out and put these crooks on blast.

Keith Idec is correct, Pacquiao should have made them pay. Being so nice and polite to a bunch of crooks. Pacquiao has giant balls in the ring vs fighters. But he definitely is looking like his balls shrank vs the WBA.

      Good job Keith Idec.

Most journalists - and I'm not necessarily meaning Mr. Idec - would immediately change their tune if one of the organizations hired them as publicists for a good amount of money. The lone writers who went against the establishment were either fired (Nigel Collins, when De La Hoya bought The Ring Magazine) or dead (the late, great Jim Brady, of whom I warmly recommend to everybody his excellent book Boxing Confidential).

I guess Boxingscene is full of journalist and writers, judging by the title which is HIGHLY opinionated.

Pacquiao should've dumped it in the nearest trash can, Rid**** Bowe style, because that's where worthless WBA belts belong after years of objectionable behavior.

I am not telling that Boxingscene writers are necessarily corruptible.

But there must be a reason why I have been reading this kind of stuff for decades, and yet things just get worse year after year with the proliferation of titles and alphabet trinkets.

If you're a writer and want to remain in the game, at one point you either join them, or just shut up and keep writing your regular articles.

These belts aren't that valuable anymore. Who cares about the belts if you become the best by beating the best. People know who the best boxers are.
