Yeah it's a good point, but I think the grand plan was to get to Wilder, then go for AJ in a unification. He also didn't want to fight AJ as his voluntary as that means beating him twice and as we saw with Ruiz, that's not an easy task. So he wanted to get the WBC belt then fight AJ from a much stronger bargaining position.

Well that’s the point ,Whyte is invested in the WBC belt . Because of his error in declining AJ it’s a waste of time now because he won’t see a Title shot with AJ anytime soon now .
